2011 Division III Commitments

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Do you know what I hate? Is you know there are kids from the NAHL commited to D3 schools.... So why does the league and teams not post it like the EJHL and Atlantic Jr hockey. Does the NAHL look down on D3 hockey?

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

NAHL teams are only out to announce the very few D-1's that they get. The majority of the league will be done with hockey after their 20 year old years, and the other small amount of top end guys will end up in D-3.

The league tells players they D-1. The coaches are not honest with the players and they for sure don't want to celebrate all of their D-3 players. This would take away from what they are selling the kids....which is D-1 or bust. The league is a very good one and fun to see kids develop in, but it is a D-3 league and only the best of the best will make it to D-3 in all realality.

Some coaches do for sure. I have been told that others are very supportive. The funny thing is that with the expansion of the USHL into Muskegon, the NAHL has really become even more of a DIII league.

Another NE Prep Committment to the NESCAC:

Aaron Deutsch (D)-Amherst from Milton (ISL)

If true, that's a shame because the reality is that the overwhelming majority of these kids, even most of your D1 kids, aren't playing in the pros and have to get real jobs when they are in their mid to late twenties depending on when you matricuate. The league and the kid should be celebrating what most kids starting hockey would believe is a great accomplishment.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

A new one for Oswego, Eli Kim-Swallow of the St. Michael's Buzzers. He had 11 Goals and 20 assists this season between North York and St. Michaels. He is not a real big kid at 5-10, 185 but I guess he is a solid penalty killer and could be a good role player for Oswego plus he has a pretty cool name.

Ouch went from top scorer in the whole league, Brewer to a guy who is probably about 200th, he MUST have some serious intangables I bet.....good luck to him in Oz.........whos next, a goal scorer would be nice with a few big D-men as well...and yea how about a few transfers ;-)))))...

Kids don't go play juniors to hope to be able to land a spot on a D3 roster somewhere. There's a reason most kids that go D3 out of juniors are out of Junior eligibility. It's a fallback for a lot of these kids, however good the accomplishment may be in the grand scheme of things.
Heck - a lot of D3 teams don't even look at kids unless it's their last year of eligibility, because they know that the kids are going to try to hold out for a D1 offer.

So yeah - NAHL teams announce college placement to try to draw players. The prospects going going D1 are going to draw the high end players - not the number of players who had D3 offers to fall back on.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Guess that makes for a lot of disappointed kids. Let me ask you then what is the difference between the significant percentage of kids who play D1 and go no further and kids who play D3? Like I said before, by age 27 they are all looking for jobs in the real world right?

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

"A lot of people are asking, 'How are you going to rebuild?' " said Ron Fogarty. "These guys have attracted a lot of great freshmen for next year and Division I transfers. We'll just reload. The senior class did it. It wasn't me. They committed to our system and our style of play and demanded excellence from each other. Good players follow good players, and hopefully we'll have a chance to win championships every year."

A quote from earlier in the week. Hope or is there something substantial we are missing in regards to Adrian recruiting?

We will have to see whether or not Adrian will publicize their recruits. I think in their first year they were pretty upfront about who was coming in. Norwich plays it close to the vest, other schools not so much. It will be interesting.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

I admit I don't know how Adrian compares as an academic institution, but if you are a quality player looking to help keep a program on the rise at the top of D3 AND they are losing 17 seniors, then I would think they will get plenty of attention...yes?

You can go ahead and guess that there's more going on than what hits this board. ;)

Brian McNamara (D)-Williams from Choate (Founders)
Adam Patel (F/D)-Conn College from Choate (Founders)

Facts do not support your assertions.

In 2009-10 94 players from the NAHL committed to Division 1 schools (72 of which played in the NAHL in 09/10, the rest were alumni that had moved on to the USHL). The league also noted 36 Division 3 commitments on it's website.

I would imagine they get a few transfers, as they are low on jr's and seniors, after 17 players left..freshman would have the run at the rest of the spots, they also may have a few guys who didnt make the roster this yr., but praticed with the team in hopes of a chance the next yr.......bottom line they WILL be good..........
