2011 Division III Commitments

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Where are you finding these NESCAC commitments?

All but the last one are from a website that tracks NESCAC ice hockey recruits. They include kids coming from juniors but I didn't add them to this discussion board. I assumed the junior leagues would publish that information but from what I have since learned, that is not the case. Maybe I'll add them. The last one I learned from someone who knows the player.

Why don't you copy and paste the link

Two more NESCAC commitments from NE Prep Shools:

Mark Naclerio (D) Connecticut College from Avon Old Farms (Founders)
Matt Orenstein (F) Connecticut College from Albamy Academy (NEPSAC)

Question: It seems that the NESCAC schools have alot of prep school kids committed to play next season. Is that the way it usually goes? Or is it just that the we don't know about as many junior kids because they haven't decided yet or the leagues are being tight-lipped about their D3 commits?

NESCAC is usually prep-heavy, definitely. Fact is, Prep School kids are generally the ones most likely to meet NESCAC admissions standards. Last year, Middlebury's incoming class was all Prep.

NESCAC usually has a few more from the EJ than it does this year.

Another NESCAC commitment from the NE Preps from the NESCAC ice hockey recruit board:

Nils Martin (F)-Colby from Groton (ISL-Eberhart) 24 GP 23 Goals 24 Assists 1.96 ppg

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

There is an interesting analysis of this issue by the folks that have tracked the NESCAC commitments for the last three years. See the link below:

http://nescachockey.wordpress.com/nescac-recruits/2011-nescac-recruits

I wouldn't worry about the lack of junior kids listed as NESCAC recruits. NE prep school hockey fits the demographics (academic and economic) of the NESCAC schools to a "T." Come fall there will, however, be plenty of junior kids on their rosters. Generally, it is still very early for junior kids to be making decisions. Most want to be sure that all DI interest has vanished before they seriously consider DIII schools. The best DIII players will receive some interest from some DI schools during their junior careers. There are a lot of junior kids who will end up playing DIII hockey who have not even applied to the schools they will ultimately attend. Factor in financial aid calculations and what not, and you can see why it is still early.

Interesting. I would have thought that all applications would have been in by now. As I understand it most schools have notified their applicants this past week or will notify them this coming week about whether they've been accepted. Are you serious that some junior kids haven't even applied yet?

All NESCAC applications were in by Jan 1, with early decision applications even earlier (Nov 15 in most cases). All NESCAC schools have completed the acceptance process but most schools give regular decision applicants until May 1 or thereabouts to accept the acceptance and submit their deposits -- all early decisions admittees were long ago bound by their acceptances (mostly issued in early December). NESCAC schools tend to use the early decision process to accept athletes so, but for the relatively small number who come in through the regular decision process, most NESCAC schools are largely done with the admissions process for next year's class. AVFC was talking about non-NESCAC schools in his post (although he may not have realized it).

The schools I was thinking of are in the West and nowhere near as academically competitive as most of the NESCAC schools. You can also think of it this way; on any given NAHL or EJHL roster, there are only two, three or four kids with the grades to get into most NESCAC schools. The Ivys are fighting with NESCAC schools for these players as are other DI schools. It doesn't suprise me at all that coaches from the NESCAC schools focus on the prep leagues. I did not know that the NESCAC schools follow the same admissions schedule.

The NEASC schools follow the same admissions time table as the Ivies.

Thanks. This is new territory for me. It maybe would have been helpful a few months back. LOL
