2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

And this solves nothing...
True, but its a good start. Figure in 10 years they'll be ready to go to an eight team deal, which would be a lot more idealizitic than just 4 teams. But at last its a start.

It should be the top four ranked winners of the conference championship game. Didn't win your division? Too bad. Enjoy the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Upset in the Conference Final and heavily-favored 13-0 College lost to Unranked U? Too bad. You shouldn't have lost. We have a nice bouquet of roses or a plate of tortilla chips for you.

I'm actually more concerned with the selection criteria than the number of playoff spots or who hosts and televises them.
Oops. That's the one thing they forgot to include in the "solution." There will be no criteria.

Sure there will:

Question One: Is the team from the SEC? {__} YES (advance to question 2) {__} No (advance to question four)
Question Two: Is the team undefeated in non-conference play? {__} YES
Question Three: Is the team ranked in the top 25? {__} YES {__} No
Congratulations you are in the tournament!

Question Four: Would this team be better suited for the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Orange Bowl?

Did someone say Rose Bowl? Rose Bowl! Rose Bowl! ROSE BOWL!!

The more I hear about the playoffs, the more I think it's going to be even worse than what we had in terms of stupid controversy.

Maybe two or three teams can lay claim to the #2 spot in the nation in any given year. How many teams are going to be able to make an argument they are at least fourth best? Yeah, this is going to work...

Hell, even for the fourth spot, that gets you a shot at the title. The 2 and 3 seeds could argue til doomsday about who's really the second best team and who should be hosting that game, but hell, even if its an SEC that has to take on say Wisconsin at Madison, they still get the chance to prove it on the field.

Still better than the current system with a chance to improve it over time.

Sure, but if a team is complaining about being #5 and outside the group of 4, that team will really only have itself to blame. I.e., they could have won a game they lost.

With a system that only took the top two, teams were being left out who had beaten every team put in front of them.

Nobody's hosting any games. Existing bowl games/sites will be used as the semifinals. If they're smart, they won't even seed the teams as 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 - they'll bill it as Team Alpha against Team One and Team A against Team Uno. That way everyone goes into the semifinal thinking they're #1.

Better to have controversy over the fourth spot than the second.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Anyone want to guess when the Big East will get a spot?

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

The teams of the Big East already have spots in the Big XII and ACC. The Conference USA amalgamation posturing under the name of "Big East" isn't getting squat.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Actually, the more I think about it, they're probably better off seeding it as 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 - the more controversy, the better... It will be especially delightful to listen to people argue over who should get to call the coin toss and wear white uniforms in the 2 v 3 game - can't wait!

No, it really isnt. A start would be to have enough spots to allow for the major conferences to get a team in...that at least makes logical sense. They didnt do that. A start would be getting rid of the "voter criteria" BS and just taking the conference champs, they didnt do that.

This is nothing but a rebranding of a couple of BCS bowl games. They created a modified plus 1 system that solves zilch. The only difference is now it just became even HARDER for a team like BSU to get in...they went from 1% to 0%. the BCS conferences finally won.

What if said team won their conference and they are bumped because a second SEC or Big Ten+2 team gets in? That is a very legit possibility.

If they want this to be a Final Four they should get rid of that possibility. When you dont even have enough spots for all the champs there should be no shot at at large bids.

This doesnt even get into how difficult it is for teams not in the BCS Conferences to move into the Top 4...they may as well all drop down a division.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

An 8 team playoff makes so much more sense than a four team playoff. You can include BCS conference champions while having room for a non-BCS undefeated team to get in or a top notch team in a BCS conference that doesn't win their conference title. Given the number of BCS conferences, eight teams in the playoff just seems to fit a lot better.
