Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread
At least my comments are based on actual performance (and recent history for North Dakota) as opposed to hopes and dreams. Goaltending will be a glaring question mark on the Gopher resume heading into next season. Scoring will not be a question mark for North Dakota (assuming nobody leaves early, which is admittedly a big assumption).
I'm not saying Minnesota's goaltending will be terrible. What I'm saying is that it is a huge question mark. Your comparisons are flawed from the start as your are comparing stud freshman to a sophomore who has proven that he is worthy of 20 minutes of ice time in two full seasons of play. Are you suggesting that Wilcox will be your savior? Either way, the lack of experience in net is a glaring question mark for Minnesota's team next season.
EDIT: FWIW, 180 goals over 45 games = 4 goals/game. 5 teams in the past 5 seasons have averaged 4+ goals/game, including North Dakota in 2010-2011. If we look back at the last 10 years, that number increases to 18 teams in the past 10 years, including 3 different North Dakota squads. Doesn't sound too "outlandish" now does it.
I certainly don't see my expectation on goalie performance at the U as outlandish as your comments on UND goals scored projections. We've seen far more first year goalies succeed than we have teams scoring 180+ goals a season in the last 5+ years.![]()
