Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)
It may turn out differently but I expect the Gophers to be picky/patient on their next defensive recruit. You have to consider that they have 8 potential returning d-men next year (no seniors on defense) and also Brady Skjei and Mike Reilly in the recruiting pipeline. Even if we lose a guy like Alt to the pros, they'd already be covered with 9 d-men. I'd suspect that they are looking for prospect for 2014 (but could come in fall of 2013 if necessary). I have no doubt Bischoff is being followed but I would doubt he'd be the first guy they'd really want to land for the next spot on the list.
Nanne is going to be a role player type in college. Hard worker, fast skater, smart, a little bit gritty, and has leadership qualities. He's not going to be brought in with the idea of being a top 2 line type of player. I know grandpa is helping some of the financial parts of it. I would suspect he is strong enough academically that he will probably get some support through that avenue as well.
What do people think of Jake Bischoff? I think the kid has some major potential. Very smart player. Best D on Grand Rapids last year as a Sophmore. Not huge offensive numbers, but very good on D and has ability to get more points. Good skater, but not quite Dad's blazing speed. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Gophs offer him a spot. And from what I have heard, his younger brother has potential to develop into an even better player, although I haven't seen him play.

I've also heard mixed reports on Nanne from someone who watches a lot of these players and knows a thing or two and was surprised the Gophs got him. How much of that was payback for Lou's years of support? Or is there any truth to the speculation that Gramps is paying his way, so if he doesn't pan out, it isn't a loss to the program?
