Did anyone see any of the UND WI series who can report on how WI looked against UND?

Hard to tell. Dell sucked a fat one that weekend. Sconnie's PK looked brutal. Their top line looked better than I thought it would, but they aren't that deep offensively. Rumpel and Peterson looked pretty solid in net. Though I only watched 2/3 of the Saturday game.

The Gophers are currently 5-1 on the road if they win Friday in St. Cloud I like the Gopher chances winning the WCHA.

Good road split for sure.

The MacNaughton cup call is a tad early for me, Jan and Feb will be a tough haul.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

I am not saying they are going to win the WCHA but there chances go up with every game they win on the road. Because rarely do teams who win the WCHA have a below .500 road record.

They have an absolutely brutal second half stretch of games. I won't make any judgment regarding where they will likely finish until they navigate through that.

And then there is always the brutal, unforeseen scooter accidents. At least we don't have to worry about losing a knee to Michigan this year.

And while I usually don't like to make predictions, I will predict where they will finish their regular season this year. I predict it will be at Mariucci, against the Stinkin' Badgers.

Don't go too far out on that limb there Koho...;)

Well, its' not 100% guaranteed. The building could collapse in an earthquake. Or the rest of the WCHA might just forfeit their season's once they realize the Gophers have it wrapped-up, so they end the season early.

You are really going out of on a limb there. ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure why the Macnaughton talk already. I said it on GPL last week but I will stand by it here too. I am still on a week to week basis with this team. I'm not into looking ahead and trying to decide if they can win out in the first half of the season or anything like that. People on GPL were predicting going into the sconnie series that they could see the Gophers winning out up until the holiday tourney. I'm all for optimism but look what happened on Friday. That kind of stuff happens and you never know when the Gophers will come out flat like they did against sconnie or the 2nd period against Vermont. I just try to take it one weekend at a time and make sure they get points on the road. Splits are acceptable, 3pts is great, and road sweeps are gravy. Take care of business on the road and do what you are expected to do at home and they will be in the top half of the WCHA with a home series in the playoffs and a good chance of advancing to the Final Five and ultimately an NCAA bid. Which, let's face it, is pretty much the main thing Gopher fans wanted to see going into this season. Gopher fans wanted to see 1. an attitude change, 2. a Final Five appearance, and 3. an NCAA appearance. I think people are getting a little premature with the early success of this team. We'll see how this all plays out because this team will hit some rough patches and who knows if they will (God forbid) get hit by any key injuries or anything. That being said, if they can continue to do what they have been able to do so far, I think they will put them in a great position to meet the expectations most Gopher fans had for this season and anything above and beyond that will be extra as far as I am concerned.

Sorry, that was a little long winded lol.

Re: 2011-12 Minnesota Season Thread (Pride On Ice Returns!)

I think people are excited...so what? Have you seen a team yet that makes you cower in fear? No one in the WCHA is lighting the world on fire as of now and for most of the games the Gophers are playing pretty well in so it isnt like the fans are misguided. It may be premature to talk about winning the conference, but let me ask you right now who would you say is the frontrunner? The Gophers have 10 points already on the road, that is going to be very important come the end.

We are fans on a message board, we can look ahead and dream it means nothing. If people want to have visions of the McNaughton in their head good for them. As long as the team doesnt think that way I could give two craps :)

Could you give two craps?:p

I'm excited too, trust me. I just don't wanna hear anyone complaining if things go south.;) Like I said, I'm just personally not into predicting the outcomes of 3 or 4 or 5 weeks from now. Take care of business now and we'll see how those latter weeks play out when they come. Just my opinion, but you boys can continue hanging banners before we get to that point of the season if you want.:p;) I don't think anyone is misguided because this team is playing pretty well so far as you said, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself, that's all.

Despite fewer 1st place votes, Minnesota hangs on to the dreaded #1 ranking for another week.

I saw the score in the BU-BC game and I knew the Gophers would have to carry that albatross into the Jan Brady concrete castle.
