Hold on, snicklefritz. If it's a 5-4 game with outstanding goaltending, hey, awesome. But these goalies are letting in softies and embarrassing shots. It's pathetic. That's all I am saying.

Niemi made a few pretty ridiculous saves tonight. You should cry more.

So I just got word that an acquaintance from Philly that was down at the game got beaten to death outside the UC after the game.

Stay classy 'Hawks fans.

Been trying to Google this and I'm not getting any news on it. That could mean that the story hasn't hit the media yet, or that word being passed has been exaggerated. I sure hope it's the latter, but I have a bad feeling you're right.

It's terrible that this sort of thing is even believable (i.e. we see a story like this and thing "it's possibly true" rather than "no way could that happen here"). I've always felt pretty safe wearing my Canadiens jersey into "hostile" territory like the Boston, etc. I hope N. American sports isn't going the way of European soccer, but with so many reports of fans being assaulted--and perhaps in this case killed--it's gotten to the point when I'll probably choose to be safe than sorry in the future and wear the Habs sweater to the Bell Centre only (unless I'm with a group).

I'm trying to get the details, it was someone I knew of through a friend at the Wolves games. The source works for the Indiana State Patrol, and the person beaten was originally from Philly and was at the game rooting on the Flyers.

Even I'm trying to get some more details on it from my friend, and I haven't seen anything on the news sources yet either.

Indiana or Illinois?
Indiana State Patrol. She lives in Hammond.

The friend was in Chicago (born in Philly).

Here's the details I have now (they're still sketchy). Apparently it wasn't at the game, but in a neighboring area.
My friend with him stopped texting me after the initial one & didn't pick up when I called. He was a young advertising agent. Got sent to Philly when he graduated but comes back to Chicago from time to time to work in the downtown partnered office. Guess a bunch of them went to a club to watch game near UC last night & some drunk Hawk fans went at him for wearing a Philly jersey. Fight escalated & police called. They had beat him & reportedly stabbed him. Not clear on that. During the taunts he was told "Chicago don't want no Philly **** here," then they jumped him. His internal injuries & bleeding is what he died from. I didn't see it in the papers either. A bar near me also had fights break out. ISP went to help. Glad I was off.

this reminds me why I hate people... I hope all the rest "works out" as in they catch the creeps and all that stuff... this type of stuff should never happen.

Seriously. Just a game, people.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

that has to be the most smarmy written article I've ever read... you can sense his superiority oozing out of every sentence.

Smarmy? Certainly. Well-written? Absoulutely. He's writing for the overeducated slice of the Canadian audience desperate for the sense of smug satisfaction that can only come from looking down their collective noses at Applebee's America. And while the smarmy smugness of the tone of the article will grate some American nerves, there is also a huge amount of truth in what he wrote...

I totally agree with this. I tried to read the article from the writer's perspective. "Their" game has become Americanized; the southern expansion is just more of the same consumerism. This quote sums it up much better than I could:

Wealth does not confidently reside in the beleaguered strata of middle-class America anymore, but a whole lot of spending still does, and the nhl — the business enterprise, not the game many Canadians believe to be the ultimate expression of our national identity — saw the same growth opportunity that Hollywood and television, and religion, and politics, and advertising all have. If you are a business in America, you’d be crazy not to want to clamp onto the same enormous *** that Foot Locker, LensCrafters, Sbarro, Wendy’s, H&M, McDonald’s, Victoria’s Secret and J. Crew have, and once you were there, the faint, wounded clamour for an nhl team coming from a place as far away as Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, would only become more distant and inconsequential. Eventually, you’d stop hearing it altogether.

Believe me, as a Nashvillian it's a bit painful to read (e.g.; the city is much more a series of neighborhoods than a "downtown"), but his main point is spot on.

that may be... but he's going out of his way to do it... I understand him talking about it from his perspective in life... it makes it seem like he's doing a chore in this assignment. Its like he's been asked to do it begrudingly.
