Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Is anyone else jealous that UNH is hosting Michigan this season?
No.

It's the one program that has never traveled to Orono. With the history of meeting them all of those times in the NCAAs and both teams winning National Championships.......I just gotta say, thanks Red!

Why do you think Michigan wants to relive all those March failures against the Black Bears?

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Preseason poll is out. Maine second, got Jerry's #1 vote.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

CSTV is also televising the North Dakota game from Alfond on 10/22. They will also do the UHN and BC games at Maine. The Black Bears are featured four times of 10 games, the most of any HEA team. UHN, BC and BU are featured three times each.

No.

I gotta ask though.
say Michigan WERE to come to Orono, would THAT get you out of the house and to your first game at the Alfond since "the good ole days when you were on the team?"

see, that is why you are not jealous, you aren't going no matter who comes to Orono

Would you rather Michigan instead of North Dakota? Maine and NoDak may not have the long history in the NCAAs, but I like the series. Both schools are similar (smaller state schools, hockey is THE big program), and NoDak was incredibly classy with the "WALSH" jerseys back in the day.

If someone is going to come all the way to Orono from a western conference, it is going to be a two game series. Maine has a two game series at Michigan State (the back end of a home and home commitment, and I think MSU coming two years ago would meet your qualifications). Other than that, there is the Florida tournament (not going anywhere- Maine is a charter member, and I don't think anyone can complain about Maine playing Miami, Cornell or St. Cloud), and a single home game against Connecticut. Michigan isn't going to come up and play a Saturday only series after Maine hosts Lowell on Friday.

So, KnowItAll, what would make you happy? Any big team Maine plays (ND, MSU, Michigan) will want it to be a home and home agreement. Maine's a draw, Michigan is a draw. Both would want the home game revenue to offset the costs of the trip. I think it is entirely reasonable for the schedule to have the home end of one of these agreements and the road end in the same year. If you double up the home series, you will have a subsequent year with the lone non-conference home game being a Connecticut or Bentley. Would you prefer that?

You're overthinking it. He just wanted to show us his maturity by taking (what he thinks is) a cheap shot at me for being a (using his phrase) shut in.

And no, I'm not "jealous" of UHN hosting Michigan, just like I wasn't jealous of BU hosting them. Do you suppose they are "jealous" of Maine for landing North Dakota and Michigan State? They've both won NCAA championships more recently than Michigan.

I give him credit though...at least he didn't delete this one (yet).

Yes.

Maine has their deepest group of forwards in years, but nothing proven in goal right now.I saw Sirman twice last season;once he was impressive, and the other time he was cheese-cloth.I pretty much think that Maine's hopes for a playoff run lie with Ouelette, and who knows if he can stop a puck at this level?Maine is dangerously thin in goal,no doubt about it.

I predict another long year...Hope I'm wrong,though.
...I can see where you are Skeptical on the Goaltending situation as it is now...but it has been done that Freshman coming in have proven they can stand the HEAT and take a TEAM to the Championship games...teams like Denver/BC/BU in recent years has won the whole thing with Freshman handling the brunt of the goaltending for there teams...and Vermont and Miami/Ohio have made it to the Frozen 4 with Freshman between the pipes...so it can happen. On paper Maine looks srong in the forward department and the d-men are good but could use some tweaking to be a notch better...the question mark is in net and it may take 10-12 games before we all know what we have in goal...so it might be a rocky start in October...but "IF" they can come out of October at 5-2-0 or 4-3-0 then that would be a good start to the season..{imo}.

You've certainly never taken a cheapshot at anyone on here before

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

I don't care what any of you say........I'd like to see Michigan play at Alfond.

Best bet in the future might be for the Big Ten to form and do a Maine/UNH vs. Michigan/Michigan State weekend with return engagements.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

The Black Bears have enough offence to carry them through if the goaltending takes some time to solve itself. Even if it takes 5-10 games before one of Ouellette/Sirman/Sullivan (or maybe a rotation of 2) proves he can be #1, the offence should be strong enough to produce a .500 record. If one of the goaltenders catches fire and provides even above-average play, this team should be a lock for the NCAA tournament and maybe even take a run at the Frozen Four.

I know it seems a bit of a stretch after the defense/goaltending of last year and the offensive challenges of a couple of years before that, but with so much of last years offense returning I have a feeling that this might be a very good year in Orono.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Of course, my opinions above can be tossed out if the team suffers any significant injuries (and no, I don't believe I've just jinxed the season by saying so).

This team should be deep enough to be OK with significant injuries short of Nyquist. (I may have just jinxed the season by saying so),

The problem is that even if a team plays in Durham on Friday, they still don't play until Sunday in Orono. I don't know if any western team would agree to that.

It would be nice to see Michigan, but I don't see any reason to prioritize them over North Dakota, Michigan State, Minnesota, Denver, etc.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Sorry to whomever, but Michigan State and North Dakota are terrific OOC opponents,IMO...The best early season slate Maine has had in a while. It's gonna help in the PWR department, one way or the other.Beating up on Sacred Heart will not,win or (especially) lose.

You realize these forwards will have to work in Timmay's "system" (especially at full strength) ?

And if you follow the "Even if it takes 5-10 games before..." idea, you understand any critical losses in these first 5-10 games (lots of OOC matchups) will result in a PWR hole Maine may never be able to climb out of ?

Ah, so. I wondered who would have voted for Maine... :D

If the team begins to believe this rot, they are in for another bottom dwelling or .500 year.
