Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Those are legit resources to expend, it kept Maine's name in the elite recruiting circles while the team absolutely stunk.

I'm sorry... can you tell me what this accomplished. Their name was in elite recruiting circles? Did it get them elite recruits?

If anything, recruiting those "elite" players and losing them all made other "elite" players (who actually intended on going the college route) do a double take about seriously considering Maine.

It seems that just because you are a draft pick does not guarantee a lot of playing time at Maine either.........

My thinking is that while Watson was at the NDPT, he was the only Maine recruit there. Did he end up coming? No. But did it keep Maine's name associated with NDPT recruits? Yes. That doesn't hurt anything.

It doesn't help either. Not until you Maine lands someone there. And even at that point, I think it's a huge stretch to say that was the reason or even helped as I'm sure Timmay and staff are in contact with the kids in this program every single year whether Watson was there or not and Maine's name was 'out there'. If they're recruiting these kids, their name is already out there.

I really do think that it is a huge stretch to suggest recruiting these types of players and then losing out on them wasn't a waste of resources in some respects.

If Maine starts winning HE championships or National titles, the "elite" prospects should start lining up...........
Then the question...........an education at BC or UMaine? Living in Boston or Orono ? Riding the bus or not riding the bus............

I believe that BC also "rides the bus"........unless they use limos.

forgive me for letting facts get in the way of whatever you're trying to prove but Martin Ouellette was drafted by Columbus

Edit: oh i guess you already took down your little tirade but nevertheless...

Maine was in the FF four times in six years and the elite recruits weren't lining up if they were the program wouldn't have headed south so fast. As far as living in Boston or Orono it's different strokes for different folks there have been plenty of recruits who have chosen Maine over a Boston school in some cases it makes a difference, but not as much as some make it out to be.

I don't think Watson ever played for the NDPT. If I remember correctly he got jerked around for a spot on the U17 team which steered him towards the OHL?

All Maine needs is more players from Boston schools to get caught drinking beer and eating chinese food in the arena parking lot before practice and the Bears program will be right back where it was. :)

Seems to me that once the Kariya pipeline dried up, so did Maine. They still get some quality recruits, but it isn't like it was.

Howard. Nyquist. Moore. Jackson. Leveille. Purcell. Maine's been to 3 FFs and a national championship game without a Kariya.

Sweetland, Lundin (the eldest :)), Dimmen, and you could include Soares in that list.
