Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Sounds like a great kid, can't wait to see him play

I'm very excited to see this kid play as well. I just have a feeling that he could become one of those Black Bear goaltenders that gets mentioned in the same breath as King, Snow, Dunham, Michaud and Howard.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

Should we let him get to Orono first, or just go right out and buy him a crown and throne now?

Seriously? The way its been up there, you should be happy IF he shows up, not how he performs WHEN he shows up. ;)

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

not quite sure whether an 8,000 seat venue will take the "northern" Regional out of the hands of Manchvegas, with a seating capacity of nearly 10,000 though...

Really???

2009 Northeast Regional - ManchVegas:

March 28 - UNH vs. North Dakota - 6,883
March 29 - UNH vs. BU - 7,863

There goes that theory..............

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

I'm sure the NC$$ relies heavily on seating capacity when making comparisons.

For the games cited below, were these numbers based on a ticket count through the gate (the old term - turnstiles) or the total number of tickets sold / distributed ?

It might be the case that if the figures below were tickets at the gate, the actual number could certainly be over 8,000 when also totaling the no-shows and the "comps" in the total number of tickets distributed.

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

It's funny when you think about how the NCAA works. They heavily weigh the capacity because they want that potential big crowd. And those crowds aren't happening. Why? Because the tix to the regionals are way to expensive. Freakin idiots could bang out a lot of these arenas with a local team or two if they made it more affordable to families and had a more realistic business model (marketing included).

Portland would surely have to be considered for a regional, IMO. The difference from say Bangor, which has been discussed many times here, and Portland is huge. Better city and closer to the majority of the fans they would expect to draw from, which makes it less risky that you would see an empty arena in Bangor should Maine not qualify under either scenario.

Meh, not necessarily. Though Portland area certainly has a larger population base, I think the Bangor areas thirst for college hawkey is by and large much larger than Portland's. Sure there are college fanz in Portland, but the real diehard fans grew up with success in the Bangor area. Though it may become chic to watch a regional in Portland, I'm not sure they'd draw that much better than Paul Bunyon's town. Just my phkn opinion on that one Nicky.

But do Bangor fans have enough of a thirst for college hockey to fill the building even if Maine doesn't make it? I think Nick's point was that fans from NH and Mass would be more likely to make the trip to Portland than Bangor. Either building would be filled if Maine was there, but I agree with Nick that Portland would draw a bigger crowd than Bangor if there's no Maine.

I think you'd be surprised with the turnout even if Maine wasnt in the mix. These folks know the Minnesodas, the Denvers, the Dagotas and Hahvads. They really appreciate the sport for what it is, imho. Granted, tix prices would have to be reasonable, but yeah, I think they'd turn out. Chit, they'd pay the price to see UHN choke or BU go down like a Boston slut. :D

and Maine would have to be a 1 maybe a 2 seed to even be in that regional i would think. I'd go to Portland (and I do) in a heartbeat even if there was no hockey game, it's a great city............Bangor? it's so much further and doesn't resonate in people's minds like Portland does but i think it's a great idea to move from Manchester and share the event and let Maine have it

If Maine were hosting it doesn't matter if they're a #4 seed thanks to an AQ - they'd be in the mix.

That said, I don't expect Maine to get an NCAA regional in Bangor or Portland, so the question is moot.

So you're ruling out Fort Kent?

It's DaGOATa. Wish we could go back to the days when Chris!!!!! would battle the hicks from ND and get them riled up by calling them Dagoata.

Granted, tix prices would have to be reasonable,

Well, that's a big problem. Seriously, these people should be clubbed to death for pricing so many folks out of an event like this. "Geee.... why won't this sport grow??!?!?!?!?!!? DURRRRRRRRRR. Oh let's put the FF in a football field while we're on the subject of growing the sport!"

Ah chit Chris, you think we're all stoopid ?? ;)

This new guy whos sposed to generate interest in cawledge hawkey....thats his job....letz see if he can handle it. I'd fix a few things in a gd hurry if I had the chance....tix prices being #1. You dont strangle the sport by pricing the one thing out of the market that will allow it to grow...the fanz.
