2010 Kendall Hockey Classic Thread (UAA, UAF, UND, & AF)

Re: 2010 Kendall Hockey Classic Thread (UAA, UAF, UND, & AF)

I would think Air Force would have the crowd on their side when they play Fairbanks, with all the tickets being given out for Saturdays game with UAA they may have more fans than UAA because it's military appreciation night. Should be some good hockey with Air Force and #1 North Dakota coming to town. Last year some Denver fans were billing them the best college team ever, this year there seems to be the same sentiment about the North Dakota.

It should be noted that, with one glaring exception*, North Dakota fans are not saying anything close to what DU fans/bloggers were saying last season.

* - And that exception says the same things year after year regardless of realistic expectation.

Re: 2010 Kendall Hockey Classic Thread (UAA, UAF, UND, & AF)

When air force played in fairbanks last they had a bigger contingent than UAA brings for the governors cup :D

To throw out my feelings, I'm generally positive about the nooks, but both games will be challenges for different reasons. The nooks will need to adjust to the big ice during the first period against air force.

I think the nooks will continue to evolve their style of play in the same direction they did last year, and become more dependent on scoring than on tight defense. Certainly, the nooks will maintain their signature defensive competence, but I expect to see more risks to expand on scoring opportunities. This puts increased pressure on the D-men all around during the game. If this doesn't work out I expect to see dallas take the team back to basics with regard to defense.

Colton Beck has an incredible scoring touch, and I hope the team can compensate for the loss of Dion Knelsen's quarterbacking and playmaking.

I expect special teams this year to be outstanding.

Re: 2010 Kendall Hockey Classic Thread (UAA, UAF, UND, & AF)

You misspelled "Boston College"

He's from the part of Alaska that doesn't have sunlight for like nine months a year, just let him be delusional and wrong.

Sioux easily win two. MacWilliam kills a moose with his bare hands. MMFF throws it into the Sourdough Mining Co. Dusty brings it home to his shack. Dusty names the moose Sue, puts it in a dress and dances the Charleston. Dusty and Sue put in application to appear on Alaska's Dancing with the Stars. Much like UAA's WCHA application should have been, Dusty and Sue are turned down.

Re: 2010 Kendall Hockey Classic Thread (UAA, UAF, UND, & AF)

bunch of nancyboy pilots?

Is that any way to talk about a Lamoureux? How do you think the twins got so tough?

I'd be thrilled with a split, but breaking in a new goaltender, I'm not going to get my hopes up. Just trying to get things settled in for conference play. That and the fact that the last "Alaskan vacation" didn't go so well. Maybe a few folks from Elmendorf will show up and give the boys some support.

Good news, the UAA Athletic Dept. has given 2500 tickets to the military base, so I hope they come out and support their team.

Good to hear.

not many average enlisted folks generate positive feelings for officers who order them around like cattle.

Maybe that's why we train officers not to "order them around like cattle." Geez. Bad experience?
In my 19 years, I've always treated everyone in my office or on my jet, officer or enlisted, as an essential part of the team. In fact, the specialists often know more about the mission and are more critical to its success than the bus drivers.

And, most of the 2,500+ Air Force fans who show up for games at the Cadet Ice Arena, and other venues in Atlantic Hockey, are not alumni. Most of them just appreciate the 60-minute effort from guys who weren't drafted, aren't leaving after a season or two, and will probably never play again after they graduate. Year-in, year-out, they have a competitive, hardworking, fun-to-watch bunch. Do yourself a favor and go see for yourself.

Gee thanks Colonel ... but I'd guess you're a bit full of it from the manner in which you deliberately omitted the preamble for my comments which you quoted ... allow me to provide them.

I have my doubts that any sort of throng of fans from the base will descend on the Sully. Perhaps it's just my experience from being in the AF but I would say the only members of the AF that could give a crap about AFA would be it's alumni.

In fact, when I was in there was a fair amount of resentment for AFA grads from their peers. And as for enlisted people ...

And yes ... I should have written ...
...a crap about AFA would be it's alumni ... AND THEIR LOCAL FANBASE

Notice how I qualified my opinion before expressing it??? ... I guess if I'd never been on the grounds of AFA or been shat upon by wet behind the ears butter bar weenies then you'd have a point. But it is clear (to me at least) that you aren't much different than many of the officers I worked for during my enlistment in that fine organization.

Since each of our perceptions is indeed colored by our life experiences then I think you'll understand if your anecdotal accounts of how wonderfully you treated the minions below you don't resonate with me especially in light of your quoting mechanics in this instance.

Going into politics after the AF? You'd do wonderfully I bet. And if you don't think other non-AFA grads who are officers don't resent AFA grads in the AF then you're funny and perhaps should try stand up.

Yes. Jacques had to leave NMU because he wasn't good enough. He is the black sheep and no one likes him.

Much like UAA's WCHA application should have been, Dusty and Sue are turned down. Dusty blames Sue for them being rejected and asks for a divorce.

Wow. Tough talking but ignorant. Jacques left NMU because his initial application to USAFA was denied for medical reasons. NMU gave him a home while it got sorted out, and he was doing pretty well when he left.

Everyone here likes him just fine. Sorry he didn't want to compete for ice time with a bunch of Canadian imports, and had career aspirations other than sweeping up down at Judy's.

I'm not a grad. And I have no resentment towards my fellow officers who are. In fact, after about one assignment, it's almost impossible to tell who went to the Academy, ROTC or OTS. If you were so busy "getting ordered around like cattle," when did you have time to sit down with a bunch of officers and allow them to share their views on Academy grads with you?

But it is clear (to me at least) that you aren't much different than many of the officers I worked for during my enlistment in that fine organization.

Well, there were always a few troops who didn't want to do the work or didn't adjust well to a military lifestyle, but they usually didn't last very long. I guess to them, we all look the same.

You'd be amazed what other AF officers do on their time off no doubt. But don't allow me to burst your bubble by describing the various legal and illegal substances that help pilots come down from their mandated dexedrine buzz eh? This really isn't the place. But suffice to say ... I knew people they didn't know.

Your subtle inference that I was some sort of malcontent is kinda funny. But that won't get a crowd going when you start on that comedy career. See, it's just kind of crappy and small-minded to answer my criticism of your previous purposeful omission-quoting (i.e...mischaracterization) by trying to lump me into some generic loser category. What's next? A slam against my post count as an inference that I have no life?

You have zero knowledge of me. And you called Dirty ignorant? LOL ... irony is funny. Keep working on the irony since you've had great success with it in this thread. I'm betting we'll see you on America's Next Comic in just a few years.

I know fully well why Jacques was at NMU, he's still the black sheep of the family.

So you admit he didn't want to be challenged and instead wanted to go to a school where he'd just be given ice time instead of earning it. See, that's why he's a black sheep. All the other Lamoureux's, even PJ, were willing to work for ice time.

Sue, who for some reason is alive now, agrees to the divorce and takes half of his crap including the Sourdough Mining Co.'s recipe for their World Famous Korn Fritters.

At least he owned a recipe for their World Famous Korn Fritters, .I heard the Dak Rats where taking a bus out to Wasilla to see their Favorite Alaska Levi Johnston something about everybody had a magazine with a picture they wanted autographed and a side trip to keep them from getting homesick ………. to tip some cows and if they can’t find any cows where going over to the mat-su river to fill some sand bags.

Please. They all went to Evan Trupp's house. His mom makes way better Korn Fritters.

he's a black sheep.

We like black sheep. Druggies too, evidently. It's all good.

Impressed that UND has more Yanks than Canucks on the roster this year. That's actually better than a few AHA teams.

I'm impressed that, although not confirmed, AF has more fans than players this year....this too is better than a few AHA teams.

Does the Sullivan generally sell out? Can I generally walk up and buy a ticket, or should I phone ahead?
