2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

Just how do you get an interference call after a goal has been scored against you... is it bob wrong or Hockey East refs pulling stuff out of their arse because they don't have any better ideas?

I chose B. I couldn't figure that out either. Did they interfere with the celebration?

ok... 4-4 tie... i picked up the game once i crawled to the surface at 2-1 UVM... you know what... you don't want to go down 2-0... 3-1... but I like to see when a team has fight. I wish we could put it away... I wish we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot (thankfully it didn't cost us)... but 4 goals in a period is a sign that you aren't just satisfied with giving a half-effort.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

Although it's not as fun to think about because UVM came back in the last minute, but all in all, a 4-4 come from behind tie without one of the team's best penalty killers for most of the game isn't too bad. Four points in the last three games is pretty ok.

Was hoping for a four point weekend combined with 'Mack's continued thrashing of PC to avoid a last place finish, but it's not like beating PC in a tiebreak to get 9th is much better than finishing 10th.

Hopefully the team ends the season with two more points.

The Wetmore penalty was apparently a delayed call when Vermont scored. Under the new rules this year, the goal counts, and the penalty still needs to be served. We were all confused as well, as we didn't see the delayed call signal from the ref.

They are now unbeaten in the last 6 at the Gut (3-0-3), and last 9 overall against Vermont (5-0-4). Perhaps the need to find a way to play Vermont more than 3 times a season.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

I guess the point I was trying to make is that if you don't have balance and play some of the top rated teams in all four conferences, how are you ever going make that jump to the next level and get to the NCAA. Playing Brown isn't going to get the job done.
This is a concerning trend. To get to the next level you need to play the top teams. Doesn't do anything to help improve the players. It does however make a coach look better then he actually is, if some more wins are but up in the column to the casual hockey fan.

Don't think for a second that this principle doesn't work on recruits... I'm convinced that's why top NCAA basketball teams put the creampuffs on the schedule. Players don't have SOS handy when looking at records.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

I find it amusing that Vallorani decides to finally show up once the games don't mean anything.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

I find that a bit harsh.

I agree, it is a bit harsh about Vallorani.

I thought Edwards had a rough night. The UVM second goal was just a bad play on his part. He had the puck and did nothing with it, giving UVM a chance to transition and score. He also turned the puck over 3 seperate times in his own zone, putting the puck on a UVM players stick, in the last minute of overtime. Hopefully he plays better tonight.

While I'm glad we came away with the point last night, I'm still shaking my head at the way it ended and the overtime performance where they almost gave the game right back. It was admirable how they overcame a 2-0/3-1 leads in the third and put four in the net. Coughing up that lead with 135 seconds remaining from a win goes right back to the point of failing to close escrow that has plagued this team for many a year. While it didn't cost them home ice or a playoff spot, it's still the same troubling thing of letting a game get away very late in the contest.

What drives people (including yours truly) nuts about Vallorani is that he is and can be a streaky player. A lot of people post harsh things on this board. I don't think anyone can dispute that he had a very disappointing first semester but in fairness has produce some decent numbers in the second semester, including an instrumental performance with the win @ Merrimack. At the same time, he was held pointless in four straight home games against BC, NU, and Maine. He by far is the most creative player on this team and I'd rather have him here than elsewhere.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

A goal called back! Not used to things going our way. Now to score a goal. Or 2. Or 3...

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

Can not wait to see happens this off season with the program! It will be interesting to see if any coaching changes happen!!!!

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread II

Thank you to the team during what can be best called a learning experience in a very difficult season. Best of luck to all of the members of the class of 2011.

Seven months away from opening day. :(
