2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

Mercyhurst wins 5-2. I see by the box score a WSU player got a Game DQ for a checking from behind with 2 seconds left in the game. I hope nobody got hurt.

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

Dartmouth up on Harvard in Hanover 2-1 after two. Shots, 23/12, Dartmouth and face offs, 17/7, Dartmouth also. Harvard has three penalties. Dartmouth scored on one power play.

Trunzo missing from Dartmouth lineup.

Stats as to attendance last nifght in Cambridge came from box score.
Too bad-would have been good to see a bigger crowd!

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

6-2 Gophers over the Mavericks for the sweep. Six points Minnesota needed badly.

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

Final-Harvard 3-2 over Dartmouth. Shots, 30/17 and face offs 22/16-both in Dartmouth's favor. Four penalties for Harvard, one for Dartmouth.

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

UMD shuts out Ohio State 8-0 at the DECC. Haley Irwin had three goals and three assists just to show off a bit. Suprisingly, OSU's top three points leaders (Langan, McIntosh and Spooner) were all held scoreless. So it's a split in Duluth. ::whew::

Clarkson absolutely sucks. Forget firing King, fire the Desiorsosis (no, I don't care that I spelled their names wrong). seriously.

WOW…I agree that Clarkson is struggling with consistency this year, but firing the coaches for one off season is a little harsh, don't you think? I mean, they did lose 7 or 8 seniors this year and have recruited some very talented freshmen, but they are young.

Well, I guess its quite clear you really aren't a Yale fan at all then, hehe. Did you actually see Clarkson's game(s) this weekend? What exactly do you think were/are the problems with the way the team is being coached on the ice? Can you be more specific about why you think the team is underperforming other than a general "coaching sucks"?

I agree that a tie to Brown and a loss to Yale were most unexpected for a team that was expected to finish 2nd in the ECAC this season. But sometimes the final scores don't always tell the tale either.

Despite Ice's comment, I don't think the large size of Clarkson's freshman class can really explain it at all. After all, both Brown and Yale also had very large freshman classes this year, and most observers felt Clarkson's recruits were actually among the best in the country.

While I certainly would not have ever predicted this weekend's results, I was not quite as bullish on Clarkson's prospects for repeating its success this year as most others. Selina and Thibault were relied on for a very large proportion of the team's offense last season, and that loss is notable. But even more importantly, I think the weakness on this team that most overlooked is in defense.

Eusepi was head and shoulders better than any of their other defensemen. As in the case of many outstanding defenders, I always thought it was actually Eusepi who was critical to the overall performance of the team, and for some reason seemed to be undervalued in that regard (by outsiders anyway). Now the importance of that loss has been exposed...much like occurred to Harvard some years ago when they struggled some as a team after losing Cahow, despite still having many very talented scorers.

Furthermore, at least a couple of the other defensemen on the Knights are actually converted forwards, pressed into duty at that position for Clarkson only due to the imbalance of recruits in recent years. That certainly doesn't help matters at all.

RStarr. As you know, I take issue with fans lambasting teams there own teams, specially early in the season. IMHO your comments are off-base. I'll be the first to admit that Clarkson has not done as well as some would have expected, but that is not a reason this early on to jump to the "need to fire the coaches" conclusion. Clarkson has the second best winning percentage in the ECAC, hardly a reason to panic.

Have seen many ECAC games this year. From watching the games and from the various ECAC results it is clear parity reigns supreme in this league. You have Cornell at the top in a league of it's own, with Harvard and Dartmouth looking to be numbers two and three and pretty much parity in the rest of the pack after. Games between the rest of the pack have been quite unpredictable. Just witness the prediction contest results for an illustration of this. This shows there is more parity this year than there has been in recent years (maybe even ever, not versed enough in the longer ago past to comment).

Let's give some credit to teams like Yale, Brown and Union. Many thought of them as doormats in the league. All these teams are much improved from last year. Many pundits in the rinks have been talking about this during the various games I've been at, and most agree.

Clarkson had a great year last year. They had an outstanding team that included a "rent-a-player for one year" star, that made a huge difference. Agree very much with the comments Trillium made WRT this. Their team this year is much younger, so you can expect some growing pains and inconsistency. Their incoming class is talented, but it might take a while for the team to gel. Clarkson is 3-1-1 sofar in the league. A pretty good record, 5th in points and second in winning percentage amongst 12 teams, so they are right in the thick of things. Last thing the coaching staff needs is their fans throwing them under the bus.

I don't think you can jump to firing coaches yet!!!!!

This is typical Clarkson - that is swapping positions, something that dates back to the the Seeley era, and something that generally drives me nuts. The only teams I've seen this really work for is Minnesota and Duluth (perhaps a very few others, can't remember). The other thing that drives me nuts about Clarkson (also dating back to Seeley era) is use (or lack thereof) of the goalies.

Nothing makes me more mad than when a coach is having lackluster results yet refuses to make any significant changes week to week. Katie King is excellent at this and I see the Clakrson coaches following suit - hence my over the top aggravation. You would never see this prolonged stagnation from other top teams (notably top WCHA teams) because those coaches aren't afraid to mix things up (maybe this comes with experience, confidence?). IMO, you're already losing - what do you have to lose???

I am far from a hockey coach but I think the same thing about Mercyhurst as well. Why do some of these teams even carry 2 goalies let alone 3?

Re: 2010-2011 Scores and Highlights

You are also assessed a penalty if you do not have two dressed for a game.

And of course there's the injury factor. Minnesota's top two goalies have both had injuries at different times this year; fortunately they have three.

I haven't seen Union but Brown and Yale are not much improved from last year. Better maybe but not much improved.

Perhaps you should check the box scores before you speak so you at least look like you know what you are talking about.

I can read the box scores, thanks.

probably should have ranted in the ECAC thread so I suppose we can continue the conversation over there.
