It is sad to see him go. I thought he might play for one more year but I think it is time. Thanks for everything Footer!

Sad indeed to see Adam and Forsberg follow Sakic. I've met him several times - our fathers worked together on the Toronto PD.

Nice. He really is one of the good guys in the league. Always worked hard and gave everything he had. Hopefully he can play this weekend.

You might get an argument from fans in Columbus. ;) :)

He was the first big signing for the Jackets post-lockout, and was named captain after Luke Richardson removed himself from the capacity.

While he was well-liked during his first two seasons of his contract, many still expected more from Foote offensively, even though that wasn`t his game. The trouble started in his third and final season with the Jackets, the last of his contract. Near the trade deadline, the Jackets were in the middle of what many thought was a potential playoff race. The Jackets attempted to re-sign him to an extension, but he wouldn`t accept any of the offers put forth by management. He said if the Jackets couldn`t pay him his asking price, he wanted a trade, and only to Colorado.

i may rue the day I post this but:

I am glad Boston is matched up against montreal ( so far) in the first round. Why? buffalo isn't bad and they haven't soon forgotten last year. They are a solid club. its not to say montreal isn't, but I haven't liked what I seen out of them this year, save a few games. Granted, the bruins didn't exactly show up either so the other side could follow the same rationale. Montreal wins through their special teams, and Cary price. conversly, boston wins when they stop trying to carry the puck, be cute and actually work hard down low, establish good forcheck. Boston also needs ryder and horton to be 'on', otherwise they have mroe set up guys than pure snipers.

What I do not like are potentially 3 games up in montreal. lets face it, the refs call a different game up there. With two even teams, this could tip the scales. As a fan of the sport first and foremost, I want to see an evenly called game. The garbage up at montreal is just laughable.

Playoff time of year is better than christmas. its better than your first/ newest girlfriend. its better than winning the lotto ( okay maybe not). bring it on!!

I worry about Montreal's snipers. Not the one's on the ice, the crazies in the stands with plans to take out Chara. If the investigation is still on, does he get brought in to the police station during the series?

I bet the whole investigation was an overblown reaction by the media. I sincerely doubt that such an investigation would hold much water; the hit wasn’t bad aside from being at the wrong place. As for intent, that’s a whole different bag , but with a 14 year clean history, I am not sure intent can be inferred. It would be like saying a 40 year old with a clean record has a probable cause for murder - that’d get thrown out immediately.

Playoff hockey is almost here! Seriously the best time of the year. :)

I too, hope Boston faces Les Canadiens de Montréal. I wouldn't have said that before the game a few weeks ago. They showed me that they CAN get up for a big game and deliver. The Rangers scare me to death, but at this point they may not even be in the playoffs. Buffalo isn't too bad, but Miller is good, has the potential to steal a series. And Buffalo wants revenge for last year.

Went to the Bruins/Islanders on Wednesday...and again they won! 10-2 over the last two seasons in games I attend, including two playoff wins.

I'm going to either Game 1 or Game 2 of the first series, don't know which yet. Hoping for Montreal in part because the atmosphere is unmatched. I can't imagine what it would be like for a Playoff Series.

Don't worry, the Rangers can only beat good teams, which means they're going to lose to Atlanta and the Debbies and miss the playoffs.

This is close to coming true. If it does, I'm coming to your house to have a chat with you. :D

Have no fear...Torts says ""I know this team will be ready to play against Jersey,". Why they weren't ready to play against Atlanta.....???????

Buffalo clinches a playoff spot with a win in OT, although they only needed the single point.

Looking at the standings / tiebreakers, a single point wouldn't have clinched them the spot, but they would've had to blow a 12-goal differential on the last day of the season. And that's just something I didn't see happening.

GLM says otherwise this morning:

"Part of our attention tonight will be focused on Buffalo where a point of any kind earned by the Sabres locks them into a playoff spot."

You're right. I forgot that both the Rangers and Canes would have had to pass the Sabres. The Rangers can tie them, but would definitely be behind in Reg/OT Wins, meaning that the Sabres couldn't fall to 9th. It's always that pesky other team that I forget to include in tiebreakers.

FWIW, the Canes could have passed Buffalo for 7th if the Sabres had only taken one point tonight and there had been a pair of huge blowouts tomorrow (tied 36-36 on ROWs, tied at 2-1-1 each on the season series, next tiebreaker is goal differential: Buffalo would have led +13 to +1).

You make a lot of great points and I agree with your analysis of how Montreal wins. But the parts I've bolded are more urban legend than fact. Controlling for majors/misconducts, which rarely result in a manpower advantage, Montreal is the second most penalized team in the league.

Thornton reaches 1,000 points on a goal(!) during another lackluster effort as the Red Wings and Sharks toss the #2 seed to each other like a hand grenade.
