Chatham is losing their top two in points to other DIII's. Lauren Campbell is transfering to Elmira and Leah McNaughten is heading to Oswego. It is posted on BTD.

Im sure Leah will step in and help at Oswego, and good thing for Lauren that EC graduated five forwards.

Chatham now has one goal scorer, unless she leaves for the greener grass in the west.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

I noticed that as well. I assumed one goalie must have dropped out. How does it work in D3. Do players sign Letters of Intent and if they don't, can they change colleges.

The committments here are only "informal" as there are no NCAA athletic scholarships at D3. The only thing that can keep a D3 committment tied to a school is a binding Early Decision academic admission. Those usually exist only at very selective colleges (NESCAC comes to mind here).

I would guess that at least one of the goalies is having second thoughts...

I would also guess that a coach may be over-recruiting here. I don't know any of the goalies involved, but I would guess that some may be less recruited (early committments before coach know who else is interested) than others. Hopefully coach has been keeping prospects updated as to where they stand in the pecking order.

Re: 2010-2011 DIII commitment thread

Norwich has 4 as well. I would bet not everyone is returning.

Yes, coaches will decide to clear the deck if s/he decide that the returning goalies don't have what it takes to start.

But bringing in 4 freshmen pretty much guarantees that at least one of the recruits is not going to make the roster.

IIRC, Elmira brought in 3 freshmen last year and cleared out the returning goalie, leaving the 3 on the roster.

It depends on what you mean by "make the roster". Although NCAA rules do limit a team to dressing no more than three goaltenders, there is no rule limiting how many players are "on" a given team - that is up to the institution itself. Theoretically, a team could have eight goalies "on" the team, but only three may dress for a game.

Keep in mind that BTD will allow anybody to claim that they have "committed" to a school, regardless of whether or not they even had any contact with the coach...

Over-recruited? Isn't this the program that had an entire thread dedicated to it because it got blown out of so many games? Can there be any such thing as "over-recruiting" in this instance?!? Judging by the number of goals they gave up this season and how few they scored themselves, the coach could recruit thirty new players and it wouldn't be "over-recruiting"...

Dont forget Elmira is one the extremely few maybe even only D-III college with a JV team so some of those "recruits" or the returning goalie could have been on the JV team this past year.

At one point in last years season, two of Elmira's goalies were injured. One of the JV goalies was able to dress in a backup role for two games. What would happen if all three of a teams goalies were injured at the same time and they didn't have the luxury of calling up a JV goalie? Do you suit up your biggest defenseman and put her in?

The need for some stronger players combined with a brand new on campus rink has brought a bunch of players to this school. I'll reserve my vote for Coach of the Year till I see them put some wins on the board.

Yes, there can be over-recruiting, especially when it gets down to 3rd and 4th line talent. 30 3rd-line players on a roster will not yield better results than 15 2nd-line players.

You can't "over recruit" in DIII because you have no idea how many people will actually show up on campus.
