2009 MLB Playoffs

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs

Lee was awesome tonight - simple as that. Tons of strikes, guys couldn't work counts, tough to get the bats going with that.

Don't understand why more pitchers don't figure that out. Guys want to "work the count" as in take pitches all day? Great, don't screw around and fire a couple of strikes right off the bat. Then they can "work the count" in an 0-2 hole all game. :D

Also big kudos to Manuel for leaving Lee in there. A more statsnerd obsessed manager would have brought in the right handed specialist, the left handed specialist, and the closer into a 6 run game. Instead the manager kept his cool and realized a bloop hit and a throwing error isn't a reason to take a guy out who's dominated the game. Bottom line is, Lee even after 8 innings and 100+ pitches is still the best guy to get people out of anybody on the staff, even in the bullpen, so let him finish what he started. It also sends a good message to the Yanks - "you can't hit me, even when you're facing me for the 4th time this game".

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs

It well be interesting to see how Pedro does tonight.

I'd be happy with a game half as good as last night. I'm supposed to hate both these teams, but this is the most interesting WS to me since 2000.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs

Joe Buck definitely just referred to AJ Burnett as Josh Beckett about three times in a row.

When will Fox learn they need new baseball broadcasters because McCarver and Buck are a joke.

I don't know that the Yankees would have had much success the fifth time through. Lee was nasty last night.

It wasn't about keeping his cool. He knew that the bullpen might need to be very active in Game 2 and he knew Lee had thrown very few high leverage pitches and with a big lead was willing to let Lee finish it off.

Has nothing to do with your obsession with stats.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs

2 on, 0 out, bottom 7 for the Yankees. Manuel had two options:

1) Pull Pedro
2) Call the fire department

Watch them pick up the *** clowns on TBS instead.

They make me miss Michael Kay, Paul O'Neill, David Cone and Al Leiter. Even though Kay could get annoying, the rest of the guys made up for it with their banter between each other. I really haven't laughed during a baseball game as much as I did when O'Neill brought his own milk to the radio booth because his wife wanted him to drink skim milk.:D

"....and each of the umps has worked at least one World Series."

Looks like a few of them worked the original WS.

I just switched over to YES for the post-game with the crew. :D

Given the way Yankee fans complain about their broadcasters, it really says a lot that the Fox people are just that annoying.

Buck and McCarver spent all of Game 2 trying to make a mountain out of a molehill about Pedro, meanwhile conveniently ignoring the game A.J. Burnett was throwing. When Burnett struck out his ninth batter in the 7th, Buck finally, begrudgingly started to compliment the job he'd done.

But Burnett isn't a storyline, Pedro is. What the f-ck ever. It kills me that we're blessed with such idiocy on Fox, TBS, and ESPN.

its our radio broadcast that sucks.. and its really just waldman. sterling is a little corny on his homerun calls and obviously does the yankees win thing, but his play by play is otherwise very good and he is always very flattering of the other teams' performance and up to date on their season's success

I really think they should have a guy from the Phillies booth, a guy from the Yankees booth and Craig Sager's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and not use Buck and McCarver for anything more than target practice...

I *thought* TBS did that for the play-in game between the Twins and Tigers, though I may be confusing it with something else, like the Red Wings games in Sweden.

Although TBS' aura of suck is so great that I started hating Don Orsillo at the end of the Sox/Angels series. Possibly because I was so enraged that I confused him with Papelbon. I'm sorry Don. But that was one too many games without Remy...
