2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

and the Providence weekend showed even more...a tie against a horrible team when 2 wins were necessary, also says it all....
I understand what you and KDaddy are saying, but I think it's just a wee bit harsh. Hockey just isn't the sort of game where you see extended winning streaks, particularly in a league like Hockey East. You look at the better teams in the NHL and they're basically losing once every three times they take the ice. It takes a really exceptional team to win at a clip better than that.

I'm sure PC was't happy with getting pounded the night before. And since they're fighting for their post-season life, it was it was like a playoff game for them. They played hard and they played well--gotta tip your cap to them. In regard to Maine, just look at who they took 4 points from this weekend. They're a good team! UVM outplayed them on Saturday at home and should have come away with two points. It didn't work out that way, but those things happen.

Regarding this coming weekend, they have to take 4 from Merrimack.

This weeks series at MC is huge. Versus MC at the Gutt... MC is a COP in alot of the PWC that UVM is currently using and if they were to sweep MC I believe it makes a difference of 2 PW wins. Haven't figured it out in a while but that's what it was 2-3 weeks ago when I went though them.

2-3 weeks ago, Ted Kennedy was dead but was still the incumbent in Massachusetts before the Scott Brown win. A lot changes in 2 to 3 weeks but hopefully you will be able to analyze this in the coming weeks.
Kennedy wasn't the incumbent against Brown, the whole freaking point Brown was running against the state AG was to replace Ted. But FYI, a sweep of MC definitely changes one PWC in UVM's favor and may or may not change a second. UNH is obviously a big series as is BU. It remains to be seen whether or not UML is even TUC at that point anymore.

Look at UVM record this year. Not one weekend sweep. Then look at UVM's recent history versus Merrimack - even when Merrimack was not pretty good.

Based on recent history - this year and last couple of years there is no way the Cats sweep the coming weekend.

Merrimack tied UNH last weekend at UNH right? I don't think that makes them 0-9-0 on the road.

And, regarding my predictions, UNH owns Vermont. And that series is going to be important to UNH. The only way UVM gets a point out of there is if Madore turns it up.

I agree that UVM CAN do better if they decide to play like they are capable 60 minutes a night. But until they prove they can do that in league play I stand by my prediction (and hope to be wrong to the positive side).

Nope, they lost with 11 seconds to go in OT. Still winless on the road.

So the irresistible force meets the immovable object this weekend. Which will win out-- Vermont's inability to sweep a weekend series, or Merrimack's inability to win on the road?

At least one tie would preserve both trends.

Any idea how long Stacey is out for? I know they said indefinitely, but that could mean a week, two weeks, or even a month?

You got it..pretty close to what I am thinking.

No weekend sweeps isn't a UVM anomaly it's HE wide. There have been only 2-3 weekend sweeps all season. So far the only opportunities for a weekend sweep have come at BC, ME, UMA, NU and PC. Not exactly realistic to think that they were going to get sweeps of BC, ME, or UMA. The NU series could have been a sweep but really only the PC "should" have been a sweep. They took 3 of 4 points with a 1-1 tie that saw a hot goaltender make 28 saves on 29 shots on the road. I think you are being overly pessimistic here, that's your right and opinion, but IMO I disagree. I think UVM is primed for a sweep at the Gutt against a team that is winless on the road (0-9-0 HE; 0-12-0 overall). Meanwhile UVM is 8-4-2 at home while being 5-5-2 away overall. Anything can happen in HE this year, that has become clear, but there are still probabilities of things occurring.

Patrick Cullity +12
Wahsontiio Stacey +11
Brayden Irwin +10

The Cats need Stacey, he is the 2nd leading plus/minus player on the team and he gives the team a much needed boost of energy from the the front line. They seemed to miss him this weekend, especially in the Saturday game. Let's hope he is back sooner than later. Like this weekend!

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread : The Sequel

This thread has become rather dead. Makes me long for the days when UMLGoon dropped by to spout his drivel, and NickP came by to tell us all how wins against Yale and AFA don't count.

Long gone are the days where Tony,SteveF and SuperJoe would come by to share their thoughts, which were all identical as they seem to share a brain.

GrantFan seems to be MIA and Snwbrder is at the Mountain as he can't take the mediocrity of the team.

Well, I guess I'm off to go bother the BC fans while I wait for someone....anyone to chime in.

sorry for my absence, jcarter. its hard to hate on a team that is in danger of missing its conference playoffs - even if that teams fans still have delusions of grandeur.

who can even remember october anymore when the elephant walkers split with denver and declared themselves de facto national champions? or when grantfan declared the entire BC roster was all freshman and they were all soft?

would you trade those games for where we all are now? i wouldnt.

Ah...now I remember why I disdain BC fans so much :D. Oh, and you mean "freshmen", not "freshman." Last I knew there were more than one on the BC roster...

Brayden Irwin will not win the Hobey. Nice player but no. There are a couple of Sophomores that are just way quicker and more talented in D1. He does have a chance to move on. I know it is not all about offense but Dean Strong last year may have got my vote. He was one of the best all around players I ever saw play. The guy could do it all. Score, pass, block shots, lead. I hope UVM makes a great stretch run.

Those were "thoughts" they were sharing? Could have fooled me.

And don't forget win faceoffs. That's another thing the Cats have missed this year.

Really, if Hockey East refuses to drop Merrimack, they should send UVM back to the ECAC on account of their mediocrity (I'm being generous here).
