Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Aaaaaaaaaaand, the Sharks are no longer atop the Western Conference.

The Sat/Tues home-and-home between Chicago and Phoenix suddenly looms a lot larger than I think most expected it would a few weeks/months back.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Is Stalock that big of a deal to the Sharks, or are you just joking?

Kid's 35-15-2 in his first year in the AHL, and made the all-star game. GAA and save pct. aren't that hot yet. He needs another year, maybe two in the minors with some call-ups to the NHL in the 2nd year, but I could see him starting by 2014ish.

Otherwise it's Greiss, Sexsmith, or signing a Halak type guy this offseason and letting Nabokov go.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Save for one playoff run, he is almost as big of a choker as the team in front of him. He isn't getting any younger either.

Yeah, his almost identical regular season vs playoff stats really shows he's a choker. The Sharks offense not being able to score or even generate any puck control in the playoffs is the reason the Sharks fail.

As for losing the top spot in the West, I say good. I don't want to lose to Detroit in the first round, good luck with one Chicago. Heck, I don't care if Phoenix overtakes us, I want to see an LA/Sharks match-up in the first round!

With two games in hand, and two head-to-head meetings remaining, I'm not ruling out Detroit making up that five-point deficit and catching Nashville for 7th.

Ryan Kesler extends for 6 years/$30mm per the Vancouver Province. Time will tell but my initial gut is it's a fair deal for Kesler, he's really emerged as a valuable player, a nice defensive player with a LOT more offense than I initially thought.

This team stinks.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

So I've noticed a few things:

1) Do the Wings/Howard have an annoying habit of giving up a goal in the first two minutes of a game, or is that just me?

2) Since when are we so deathly afraid of the Oilers? Did Detroit spent too much time playing virtual golf at Osgood's estate during their recent break? :o

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

The Wings kind of remind me of the pre-cap Rangers in the fact their players are getting too old and still relying on them. Also, Howard does have that habit of giving up a softie. You got to understand it's his first real decent run with any significant playing time. I think Ken Holland will do a major overhaul no matter if Detroit makes the playoffs or not.

That is ok...with Stalock the future is so bright you have to wear shades! ;)

And yes, I saw his stats, just remember Adam Hauser was an All-Star in the AHL too! :D

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Detroit trailed Vancouver 2-0. Bertuzzi and Datsyuk scored 5 seconds apart and now we're tied.

Yes, 5 seconds apart.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

Zetterberg burns the Canucks with 0:00.3 left in OT.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Part 3: After The Gold Rush

As a Rangers fan, I'm not complaining, but I think the NHL made a mistake and hired the Hockey East refs for this game...
