Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Thread Part II: Dan Boyle's fate rests in the balance...

Dear Boston Bruins

You have played admirably over the past week, much more so than your beloved fans expected. As a lifelong fan that was 7 when you went to your last Cup Final, its safe to say I have no seen any success from your end. Through the years, 1999 and 2009 you let me down. All those years it seem you put profit over winning. Im not opposed to that, as I know you are a business in the smallest of the four major sports.

I am asking you kindly not to blow this 3-1 series lead against Buffalo. You've only blown that large of a lead once, and we will never mention that from here on out should you close this out. Go out and win one more game for the little guy, for all those teams that couldnt make the playoffs, for your fans, for all your fans that are no longer with us, and win one more to stick it in the face of the City of Buffalo and all their fans young and old. Put a few more pucks past the National Sieve, Ryan Miller. For old time hockey?

Thanks

Calder Finalists announced:

Matt Duchene
Jimmy Howard
Tyler Myers

Sweet, no Tuuka (there's been talk of him being ROTY here in the Boston area). Never seems to go well when a Boston goalie wins an award (Calder/Vezina).

I'm guessing it will go to Myers. Those are impressive stats for a rookie defenseman, especially one his size.

Duchene will someday be Colorado's next Sakic. Good rookie season considering he had a lot of fellow youngsters to work with. He gave that franchise a new hero to follow.

Howard had nice numbers, but will be slightly discredited by the voters based on who he plays for and how old he is.

Now that the Portland Pirates have been eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs, the Buffalo Sabres have recalled eight players, including former college players Nathan Gerbe and J. P. Lamoureux:

Unless they plan on benching a bunch of players on the Sabres, I don't see the point of doing this.

You don't? Pretend 1/3 of the team comes down with food poisoning. Sabres have some depth to work with.

Depth, plus a lot of NHL teams bring up black aces for the playoffs anyway, just to sit in the press box and get a little taste of the playoff intensity & atmosphere. The Wings did this with 7-8 GRR players too.

Interesting about Lammy though, didn't know he'd moved up to the AHL.

Exactly. Almost all teams call up a taxi squad for the playoffs, since they don't have the roster restrictions. Why not have them, just in case? Not to mention it gives young players valuable practice experience and allows the upper management a closer look at the ones they might be considering re-signing.

Last year was rough. They had THE team last year...I think they were the best all around team in the whole league. Was tough seeing them lose, I expected them to win.

Going into these playoffs, I had high hopes, but low expectations. It's been a really rough season, but with Tuukka playing well, I knew we'd at least make a series out of it. If they can close out this series, I'll be content with this season...

That doesn't mean I want them to get swept next round, or that I won't be upset. But they've performed quite well over the past month, and in particular, the past two weeks. They have a solid foundation going forward and the next 5 years should be a fun ride.

I'd love it if this were the team to surprise us all and run the table...and with a hot goalie, like I said, they can be in every single game.

As good as last year's team was, they peaked too early. They didn't play great down the stretch and easily beat a bad Montreal team. I kind of like that the Bruins had to claw their way into the playoffs. I think it prepared them for the epic battles in the playoffs. As of right now, this team is hitting their stride. Their success will only go as far as this high continues.

Considering that neither team shares an arena with anyone, why on earth are Phoenix and Detroit taking an extra day off before a late game on Friday in Phoenix and then have to race back to play a Sunday afternoon game in Detroit? Wouldn't Thursday-Sunday have made more sense?

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Playoffs Thread Part II: Dan Boyle's fate rests in the balance...

TV reasons, at least in Detroit. Tonight is the last game of the Tigers-Angels series, and it starts at 10 PM EDT, which would be the same time as Wings-Coyotes.

Now, they're going to need an alternate channel tomorrow night, as the Tigers-Rangers game starts at 8 PM and the Wings go at 10, but that's the only excuse I can come up with at the moment.

FSN+ exists for April baseball, IMO.

My guess is because of NBC. The only other series with games scheduled for Sunday are NJ/PHI, which no one wants to see and won't make it to a Game 6 anyway, and VAN/LA, which CBC will want and which would get a poor rating to a general US audience.

Great show of passion out of the red and black tonight Jacques you bleeping tool.

I haven't seen a demonstration of guts like this since the Mets in 2007.
