2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

If they would have paid Edmonds anything I wouldn't have liked this signing, but with no financial risk I guess it doesn't hurt.

I like the Edmonds signing. Could fill the Kapler role. I like how he's putting all the little pcs together that could have a big impact over the long long season.

There's no way I would have signed Sheets for 10 mil. That first hangnail is going to be a doozy.

I don't know that Melvin really has any must-do's left on his list. Keeping an eye on Mulder's progress is a great idea for a possible incentive-laden deal and you always need to keep a couple of lines in the water in case someone overvalues a guy on your team you don't think a ton of, but he methodically made several decent moves and there isn't much left. I think they'll be right there. The Cubs got better simply by getting rid of their huge Milton Bradley mistake and Dave Duncan always lets guys like Pinero walk and successfully replaces him with guys we've barely heard of so the Cardinals will be there with some pop in the middle of the lineup, but I see no reason the Brewers can't be right there with what they have right now.

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Isn't it interesting that Braden Looper has yet to land somewhere?

I think the Brewers did the best they could and filled the holes they needed to fill. I feel good about the bullpen, and better (relatively) about the starting rotation than last year's rotation - which was obviously the biggest problem. I'm not expecting much from Zaun and Gomez, though. It'd be nice if one of the what-the-hell signings worked out (Capuano, Edmonds, potentially Mulder).

I'd rate my optimism as guarded. :)

less than 3 weeks until pitchers and catchers report...

I just could not believe someone actually took that guy off their hands. I was sure they were stuck with him for the length of that contract. Now they are much better off. :(

Yes, it's very interesting Looper is still unsigned. I hadn't realized that.

Brewers sign Scott Schoeneweis to a minor league deal, in case something happens to Stetter. Still no Mulder, though.

Rundown of the pitching staff <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/84022987.html">going into Spring training</a>.

Corey Hart's arbitration hearing is tomorrow - the first hearing for the Brewers since 1998. Article from jsonline: <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/83605467.html">Hart loses his case in the people's court</a>

Felipe Lopez is also still unsigned, which I find hard to believe - must be asking too much. There must be a club out there that could use him.

Single game tickets go on sale Feb. 27th. 10 days til Spring Training starts. :)

Promotion schedule <a href="http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20100209&content_id=8043406&vkey=pr_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil">released</a>. The only additional bobbleheads to the anniversary ones are Bernie Brewer and the Italian Sausage - lame. I don't like Bernie Brewer, and is Italian really anyone's favorite? Still waiting for Cirillo bobblehead day.

<a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/84071437.html">Prince Fielder is awesome and they should sign him right now</a> says Garry Howard of the JS. It's nice to dream, isn't it?

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Corey Hart and the Brewers had their hearing...there will be no last minute deal...Hart will make 4.15 or 4.8 million next season...

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Corey Hart won his hearing... he will gets the 4.8 mil salary he was seeking...what a joke

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

The arbitration system clearly needs fixing if it allows Corey Hart to get a big raise. Any case against him that included proper English should have resulted in a win.

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

That's a nice raise for someone who has been as mediocre as he has been the last year and a half. It's sad the entire arguement centered around being compared to other average overpaid players and barely deserving the midpoint figure (meaning they essentially needed to round up). He better go out and make it a moot point by actually putting some wood on a few sliders this season.

New Jesus is going to have a nice rebound year and justify his salary. I feel it! Ok....that is what I hope for, since he is my favorite player. I don't want to turn on him....just yet.

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

I Dont ble him, I blame arbitrators...as for the play I agree that he should improve...but then he'll expect 7 mil next year

Agreed. Hart's people obviously played the game and did what they had to do. I'm not even sure how much I blame the arbitrators. I'm more of the opinion the process needs fixing.

Morning Brewers fans,

Just a quick note on the arbitration of Corey Hart.

I agree with a lot of folks that Corey Hart had a sub-par year. However, lets remember that the arbitration process uses the stats of players with the same amount of service time to figure out what they should possibly pay players like Hart.

That being said, the couple of solid years Corey had were simply ahead of the curve. Lets hope, now that the Crew is on the hook that he rebounds Greg Vaughn style.

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Good Morning Brewer Fans,

Your old pal Rory here up early after gourging on a few too many Cheese Kinish to celebrate the start of Spring Training.

Well, its that day of days. Time to start speculating fulltime on in the fellas can string it together for 162 and make us beilvers in a playoff birth.

I for one am interested to see if the rotation will bounce back. Some might say it has more holes than Jose Conseco has track marks but I have a special feeling today in the pit of my stomach that says they may just get it done.

Of course, that feeling may have more to do with the six polish I washed down for dessert last night. I mean what's the point of being able to keep your body image for the rest of eternity if you don't splurge now and then.

Either way, I think the front of the rotation is solid and I am thinking that the back end (parra, narveson, suppan, bush) has a plesant surprise in it.

Alright folks, Sorry to check out but I have to go. Tim Mcintosh came to me in a dream last night and told me he needs me to cosign a car loan for him.

Re: 2009-2010 Milwaukee Brewers off-season: Got pitching? Cause we don't....

Good Evening Brewer Fans!

Your old Pal Rory here with a couple of things to keep the mind limber.

First, according to Brewers.com the crew is working on a one year deal for Yovani to get rid of his renewal for this year. This of course would be a good thing. The renewal can make for bad blood in the clubhouse (see Prince).

Secondly, for those of you excercising your hand-eye through video games, your old pal Rory picked up a copy of MLB-10 The Show for PS3. Let me tell you, this game is uber realistic. It even features Sup getting rocked. Really this game is as much fun as that time we hid Del's dentures during a rain delay in Kansas City....

Good Night and Good Luck Brewers Fans.
