1989 Never Happened: MN Hosts Harvard

Re: 1989 Never Happened: MN Hosts Harvard

Well, they won. No hari kari yet.

And I thought they looked pretty good in the process. Still had trouble scoring, but they were generating chances at a better clip than I can remember from them in a long time. It was a silly play in the offensive zone that lead to Harvard's first goal and a tie game, but at that point the Gophers should have still been up by 2 or 3 despite; if they could have finished a bit better.

That line of Sachetti, Lucia, Hanson was awesome all night long. If that can continue, it will add some much needed depth in a 3rd line. Budish scoring off the 4th line was also a positive sign in that regard. (crosses fingers)

I thought Schroeder and Cepis were kind of out of sync all game, hopefully that will improve tomorrow night after getting a game under their belts together. I really hope so. Cepis seems like a natural goalscorer, and Schroeder's game takes a drastic step up when he is on the ice with that kind of player. But often times, just because two guys are really good players individually, it doesn't mean they are great together. So it would be nice if they find some chemistry and can feed off of each other.

I hope the band is in attendance tomorrow night. I don't know how many more chances we will get to hear that rendition they do after a 4 point home series. The sweetest song in the world on a Saturday night.

Back at Mariucci for Minnesota-Harvard part II. If you're not at the game, head over to whrb.org for live streaming (high and low bandwidth) of the game starting at 7:45 PM for our pregame (6:45 pm for you central time Gophers).

And check out whrbsports.blogspot.com some time in the next couple of days for our postgame recaps of the weekends action.

Good to get a sweep. Just have to remember that it was against a team with two wins. I have to assume that the Gophers will have a rougher go of things next weekend.

Nice to see the Gophers are finally winning some home games and hopefully that will continue next weekend. Even though these teams have poor records, going 6-1 is a great confidence builder. But there's very little margin for error coming up in WCHA play. Nice to finally see Fairchild and Larson score. We need Fairchild to catch fire asap.
