The Who really brought it last night and Clapton is at his best without all the bells and whistles. Love when he plays in a 3-piece band ala Cream.
No love for Adam Sandler?Clapton was probably my favorite performance last night.
Fell asleep during the Coldplay dude's set, so missed the rest.
Solid to great performances:
The Who
Clapton
Billy Joel
Bon Jovi
Stones (too short though)
Left me wanting:
Springsteen
Waters
Didn't fit at all:
Keys
Kanye

Legitimate point, but ask yourself: Which bands will generate the largest contributions? Bands that have been around forever and have huge followings? Or new cutting edge groups that have small but loyal fanbases made up of people in their teens and twenties?these people are soooooo old!!!
True; as I recall Live Aid did a better job of having something for everyone. It's been a while, but IIRC, Live Aid was at two outdoor venues, London & Philly. It was on a weekend. Under those circumstances, the performer list can be more inclusive without limiting the fundraising potential. In contrast, 121212 was an indoor show, at one site, on a weeknight. It's very hard to imagine the show running any longer than it did. If the show had run till 3:00 AM in the name of inclusiveness, MSG would have been half empty and the TV audience would have been essentially gone at the end.i don't remember live aid (for example) being made up of senior citizens.
Of course. But are they willing/able to donate their best stuff to this kind of a concert? Most of the numbers played last night were classic favorites; i.e. the initial run of record sales was over decades ago. With newer stuff, 121212 recordings might actually compete with recent releases for the same $$.is there any music being made by younger folks?
I was worried that maybe Daltrey wasn't going to be able to belt out those notes but he did pretty well until he lost it a little at the end. Fantastic song. And Love Reign O'er Me is always a show-stopper.
Well played.How rude!
Christie Brinkley guested on Parks & Rec last week and still looks great.when they shoot 'the billy joel movie', paul giamatti is playing late billly. christie can still probably play herself.
You're certainly right about the age thing; I was more weirded out by the fact that the biggest names were from Jersey, Long Island, and England, and that they couldn't find a headliner who's actually from the city. I know Sonic Youth doesn't pack 'em in like Paul McCartney, but, I dunno, someone. How cool would a Talking Heads reunion have been? (No? Just me?)Legitimate point, but ask yourself: Which bands will generate the largest contributions? Bands that have been around forever and have huge followings? I feel like they were more fixated on "HEY, WE CAN CALL IT 121212!!!" than on maximizing the fundraising potential. Why couldn't it have been at a bigger venue? Or make it a two-day event? Or two simultaneous concerts, one at MSG and one at Barclays?True; as I recall Live Aid did a better job of having something for everyone. Seriously. Love me some Hold Steady. (Still wouldn't have been able to afford to go, of course, but still.)They could have given an hour to say Talking Heads, Ramones (if they even play without Joey), Interpol, Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, The Strokes or something like that? Heck even 3/4 of Hold Stead are from NY. Obviously none of that can approach the Stones, Who, Waters, etc. but would at least have been interesting.
Yup, he's still got it. It was surprisingly good. Looking forward to the Quadrophenia tour stop here next year.I was worried that maybe Daltrey wasn't going to be able to belt out those notes but he did pretty well until he lost it a little at the end. Fantastic song.
Very cool. Counting Slap Shot as on board with this, there's at least three of us.You're certainly right about the age thing; I was more weirded out by the fact that the biggest names were from Jersey, Long Island, and England, and that they couldn't find a headliner who's actually from the city. They were definitely fixated on 121212; they were all in with that theme regardless of its limitations. Of the ideas on your list, I think the two day event is the best. MSG could have sold out twice without difficulty. Maybe have a few of the top acts perform both days, others just one. With two nights to work with, it certainly could have been more inclusive.I feel like they were more fixated on "HEY, WE CAN CALL IT 121212!!!" than on maximizing the fundraising potential. i've not yet, but has anyone gone to check out the signed used stuff that is up for auction?
