12/31/11 - Will a Pioneering road trip go for naught? SCORES!!!!

Re: 12/31/11 - Will a Pioneering road trip go for naught? SCORES!!!!

Big weekend for 5 minute majors and game misconducts. Most recent _______________ (fill in the blank), Gertsakis of Oswego for checking from behind.

But seems the only team anyone has a problem with is Castleton when they take one!!!

WNYO always a class act :)

Will WNYO be broadcasting the Friday night game on the 13th vs Curry? Talent only mentioned the Utica game.
Yeah - every game is on the "radio".....a slight chance that a "skinny" video broadcast by WTOP that weekend....

Re: 12/31/11 - Will a Pioneering road trip go for naught? SCORES!!!!

I hear the next great politician is looking for a PR guy...you would be GREAT!! OJ, Casey Anthony, and John Wilkes Booth were all innocent too.....

Never said anything about innocence, but if you were actually at the game you have to admit Platty got away with a couple....as far as reputation for CSC it is the xcheck at the end of the game that will continue to haunt this team until the crap stops....as for the other penalties ...an interference, a hook those things are going to happen....even parents of the CSC team have mentioned this stuff needs to stop

you must have a reading problem then. I'm pretty sure some of the Oswego fans have been complaining about Oswego taking stupid penalties again tonight.

and I was at the game, rail spot 59, which I'll be standing at next weekend if you come back over for the game. both teams, as usual got away with some calls that didn't have a major effect on the game. there are always going to be missed calls for both teams, some more blatant than others.

Oswego DID take stupid penalties. But they have no one to blame but themselves. 3 game misconducts in the third period is awful. And the fact that the team captain got misconducts in consecutive games is awful. That said...Neumann played a great game. They deserved to win.

my comment wasn't to try and stir anything up, just pointing out that you guys were complaining about your own team taking them, not just people complaining about CSC. sorry if it came out wrong.

Copy that....Lakers were outplayed and lost their cool...better to happen in December than March, as long as they learn from it... Curry and Utica in two weeks should be all the motivation this group needs, but I trust the Gosek and Digby will add some of their own.....

I know you weren't doing that. I haven't been following the thread so I really don't know what was said about the other game. I just know that Oswego beat themselves tonight. Plain and simple.

Correct. And Oswego knows its a problem and admits it...both fans, players, and coaches. There is a difference. Oswego also has the talent to overcome (most of the time). If Castleton could take half the penalties they would be a very scary team and not have to depend on the goalie (who I agree deserved MVP 82 out of 86).

Re: 12/31/11 - Will a Pioneering road trip go for naught? SCORES!!!!

For the record: I didn't post about it here at the time, but I said verbally at the rink that the hit by Utica yesterday was horrible. Kid was lucky not to get a DQ for intentionally targeting the head. I was disgusted by that hit, and I didn't even have a horse in the race.

That said, the hit today by the Castleton player was CLEARLY right between the numbers. There was no question it was a 5 minute major penalty. The refs rightly stopped and discussed what they saw before determining that it was a game misconduct as well, but I do believe they got that call correct. Whether or not the player was seriously injured has NO bearing on the call. The call is made based on the actions of the offending player, not based on the injuries resulting. Alex Jensen was clearly shaken up on the play, and was checked by the trainer repeatedly for the remainder of the period for concussion symptoms. Thankfully, he wasn't seriously hurt and was able to play the rest of the game, but that doesn't change how the refs are supposed to make the call.

If you disagree, that's okay. You look at it through spartan green-colored glasses, and I look at it through cardinal red ones. That's why we have referees to sort it out, and in this case they agreed with my assessment.

But the key point here: you are complaining that a Plattsburgh fan commented about an incident in a Plattsburgh game, but was silent about an incident in a Castleton/Utica game... okay. Please. I don't know if you noticed, but attendance for the early game yesterday was more than 1,000 less than that of the late game. For all you know, he might not have even SEEN the hit yesterday. And even if he did, please tell my why on earth he should be expected to care enough about a game between two teams he doesn't support or watch regularly to comment about it on here. Just because you care about your Spartans, everybody who sees a dirty hit by one of their opponents should sudenly care enough to say "Oh my... [insert opponent here] is a dirty team! Maybe Castleton isn't so bad!" Yeah, that makes TOTAL sense...

And here's something for you...

Total Penalties for the weekend:
Castleton: 16 for 43 minutes (allowed 0 PPG)
Babson 16 for 40 minutes (allowed 3 PPG, scored one SHG)
Utica 10 for 39 minutes (allowed 3 PPG, 1 SHG)
Plattsburgh 4 for 8 minutes (allowed 0 PPG)

Is Castleton far and away the "dirtiest" team out there? No, clearly Babson and Utica were right there with them. But are they anywhere near the most disciplined? Far from it.

I saw a great hockey team in the Spartans this weekend. Start playing some consistently disciplined hockey, and we'll be talking about a serious contender to make a run at more than a few titles. I still haven't seen that out of them, but I hope it happens soon. I'll be there on Friday, and I look forward to seeing more great hockey out of these two top-level teams.

And one final note: geez, Coach Todd blew his lid a few times this weekend and went nuts on the refs. Almost reminded me of Coach Emery in the 90s... but 90s Emery was a little more animated about it, got a lot more red in the face, and let loose on his own players just as much as the officials. And 90s Emery earned himself more than a few early trips to the locker room. Coach Todd didn't quite get that bad.

Re: 12/31/11 - Will a Pioneering road trip go for naught? SCORES!!!!

What were your thoughts from the Stafford tonight?

Cinotti is solid but faced way to many shots. if it wasn't for him, and a few posts it's probably a 5-1 game, very deserving of the MVP. Plattsburgh has to start burying the puck more, to many times this weekend the puck was laying free in the crease and Plattsburgh couldn't bury it. CSC does have a fairly talented team but I don't think they have the depth to skate 4 lines all game against teams like Plattsburgh, Norwich and Oswego (I can only talk about depth with teams I've seen). as for the 5 minute major and the game misconduct, I definitely think it was warranted, and his coach didn't even argue with the call. I don't know that it was a "dirty" hit as much as it was a bad use of judgement and self control. We were glad to see Alex get up and back onto the ice just moments later as the line of himself, older brother Nick and Alex Brenton was really Plattsburghs best line and a lot of fun to watch.

I know I just inquired about a couple of the major/game misconducts...I was actually surprised to hear them play like that in the 3rd

Totally agree. Cinotti played lights out this weekend, and absolutely deserved that MVP award. And like I just said, a more disciplined Castleton team with the same level of talent would be a very serious contender for a FEW titles. Is Castleton going to be in the mix for the title this year? More than likely. Will they be in the mix for a while? Probably... they CERTAINLY have the administrative support.

But right now, I looked at these 2 games against Castleton and was excited for 2 very good contests. I'm still excited about Friday's game. If Castleton played more disciplined hockey, I wouldn't be excited... I'd be scared ****less. That's the difference. Right now they're one of the top teams in the nation, no question. But what they don't realize is that the have the potential to be THE undisputed top team, but they're screwing themselves!

I was wondering when Brenton was finally going to start cooking...He had impressive junior numbers and I knew he was highly regarded and was puzzled to see him not on one of the top two lines earlier in the season.

Maybe it was disciplinary, I'm sure Coach Emery had his reasons but regardless he might have struck gold throwing him in there with the Jensens. That line is downright scary.

My understanding is that this weekend, the big disciplinary scratch was Ryan Farnan. Boy, could we have used him this weekend too.
