That's the death of the filibuster, right there. It's a gift to Manchin. He has his excuse. Mitch could not have played that more incompetently unless he literally has Manchin's promise in writing to switch parties.

The other thing is this. I don't know that the 50 Dems are on board with getting rid of it. Unlike the general public, Senators understand that things change, and while one day you may be in the majority, nothing is forever.

Last report was only a few were against it Manchin being one of them and that is fine. If Mitch is going to screw with committees though when he is in the minority they either to all get on board or reap the world reap the world wind. Mitch doesn't get to pull crap just cause it is 50/50.

The Senators like Manchin who are edgy about killing the filibuster are nervous because they have lots of Nazis in their states. Those states are full of Nazi propaganda about what happens if Democrats actually get to pass their agenda -- you know, horrific stuff like health care, unemployment extension, debt forgiveness -- really out there scary stuff.

At the same time, Schumer knows we will get nothing done with the filibuster still in place because of the legislative terrorism of the Right. Mitch will destroy the country rather than give up an inch of power or lessen the profits of those who bribe him. The filibuster has to go.

So Manchin has his nuts in a vise. He has to pander to his state's Nazis, but he is useless to the Dems (and the country) if he does. Manchin needs an out. He needs an excuse so he can say, "I'm shocked that the Republicans care more about their power than the country!" And Mitch's overreach gives him that out.

That is why either this is a blunder by Mitch or it indicates that Manchin has all but officially switched to the Nazis to save his sorry wrinkled old behind.
