This, so much this.

People still believed that republicans had a level they wouldn't crawl below, or non-voters had a stimulus so horrific it would drive them to the polls.

This is why I do not believe overturning Roe will lead to a wave. I think all of the awareness and anger and disgust at what the GOP is has already been baked in now for 20 years at least. 2004 taught me that a Republican can destroy the world, be exposed as a criminal and a fool, and still win if things broke right. The Right has no ethics and no brains, it's a gale force wind of ignorance and hatred.

Anywhere really poor and really stupid is like this. West Virginia, Kentucky, and South Carolina are completely covered by Dump signage. I haven't been to Mississippi and Alabama but I assume they're even worse.

In Kentucky, particularly southern Kentucky hill country, it was actually far more common to see the "Jesus or Hell" signage, but it goes without saying that those people are definitely voting for Dump.

We saw these in Kansas and Tennessee when we drove cross-country. It's always a little jarring to realize the dumbest kids from high school are in control of the middle of the country.

Living here and frequently traveling the interstates, I can confirm. Those signs are usually located about a mile up the road from the super-sized adult bookstore.

This has long since stopped surprising me.

Growing up, I assumed stoners were all either lefty or apolitical because of the 60s and 70s, but West Virginia showed me how drug use fits perfectly with conservative laziness. As always, when the Right complains about drugs sapping the will to work, they are projecting. They're just talking about themselves and their families, who have no work ethic and no ability to do anything but zone out on meth.

Don't get rid of the drugs. Get rid of the Right.

Yeah, I've gone through the same revelatory process over the last 5-6 years. Maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake but it didn't really occur to me that it's projection until these last few years. I've always assumed the same thing you did, lefty or apolitical.

But the signs have always been there. The far right and meth. The rich and their coke parties. It's obvious looking back.

South Dakota admitted to being on meth.

I'm also reminded that rich white people get rehab and a fake apology tour while anyone else gets jail and (blank) Anonymous.
