So the bipartisan group in the Senate got something together on infrastructure, and the first thing Mr Biden does is tie it to another D only bill? Did I hear that correctly on the news this morning?

So he never gets another bill and can't use reconciliation like the Republicans did?

Because it's easier to create a ginormous bumble-cluster indecipherable mess than to take each bill on its own (and have to be uniquely on record on each)?

No, he needs Manchin and Sinema to hold for the reconcilliation bill.

I'm not sure I understand either. I don't think he's trying to tie them together. I think he's trying to push through the shit the GOP gutted in the infrastructure bill (that we desperately need instead of tax cuts for the rich) will go through in the reconciliation.
 
I’m not sure the far left people threatening to vote against the bill are helping their cause. The Dems need to do everything they can to get this passed and then see how far Sinema and Manchin will go on reconciliation. There really isn’t another play here.

A threat is not a vote.

You do what you can. But you should only force a negotiation if you are willing to walk away. You can fold once per couple years but more than that and, well, you become the mainstream Dems: you have no power to bluff, since the other side will always call.

Also, please don't say "the far left" when referring to any Member. There is nobody in Congress who exceeds even the mild Left (Bernie, AOC). The Overton Window of our political representation is centered on the Right. The leftmost 1st decile (Harris, Gilibrand) would be center-right in most advanced democracies.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but when the current iteration of the GOP is so obviously solely focused on stifling anything instead of actual governance, they don't get to cry foul when the DNC plays normal games. Fuck the GQP. Ram this shit through and just ignore them. Work with the handful of non-insanoids and that's it.

They arent getting anything except they got the negotiation they wanted. As Scooby said they can now tout their "bipartisan" bs.

As for linking the bills, they did it because the Bernie Faction is probably waffling. This deal doesn't deal with any of the stuff they pleaded for and Biden can't risk the Dems being the reason the bill doesn't pass...it destroys the narrative.

Plus everyone knew the GQP would find any excuse to quit on it anyways. The GQP negotiates in bad faith. Even when the Dems give them everything they still say no. (1/6 Commission anyone) All of this was a dog and pony show for both sides.

Take Germany:
  • Republicans are a blend of AfD neo-fascist social policies and Chicago School "fck the poor" economics
  • Most Democrats would slot into varying factions of the CDU/CSU - free market economics w/ some regs and safety nets, pro-some sort of socialized healthcare, moderate-to-liberal social policies
  • A few of the furthest left Democrats might barely be SPD - further define and curtail states' rights, more economic regs and socialized services, very liberal social policies
  • Our Green Party is kinda sorta their Die Gruenen - staunchly anti-nuclear/anti-polluter, pro-green energy & sustainable development, very liberal social policies - except that Greenies actually enjoy electoral success in Germany
  • I can't think of a single American elected official or notable political party today who would fit Die Linke, whose factions run between Nordic-level democratic socialism and "Make East Germany Exist Again"

Could the Forest Service and/or the Bureau of Land Management lead the way in adjusting the orbit of the Moon or Earth to help combat global warming?
