115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

Re: 115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

Isn't he just an environmental activist now? And honestly nothing is gonna be enough for the right wing idiots who criticize him so whatever, they'd find some "hypocrisy" no matter what he did. "ZOMG you used paper!?"

Exactly. If the dude rode a motor scooter at one point in his life we'd be hearing about it. There's no reasoning with idiots, especially Trump Humpers.

Re: 115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

He's a politician. And for politicians, optics are everything in terms of being taken seriously by those people on the fence about your issue. If you're campaigning of Issue X, but taking actions that appear to be -X, then people are much more likely to dismiss both you and your issue. He bloodies his own nose by not flying commercial to the events he needs to attend.

Well summed up point.

You're correct; Gore isn't doing himself any favors and certainly not his cause. But we shouldn't be hearing any calls from the right about any behavior. In addition to the avalanche of Rover mentioned hypocrisy from the right, Obama who was pretty much driven snow was maligned beyond recognition for very little.

He's not trying to win over the Right or the Alt Right. He's trying to win over the "Mushy Middle," as pundits like to call it, in order to carry a majority of support. The current people in power are mostly lost causes when it comes to what Gore's agenda is; bringing them up in this discussion is a complete canard and derailment of what Gore needs to understand to advance his agenda.

Re: 115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

Sorry but literally anyone who cares about climate change and wants to see it change could be called a hypocrite by this logic. "Anyone who drives a car doesn't care about climate change!" etc. If he uses a private jet to get the Chinese to implement better emission standards then that's still very much a win.

Re: 115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

You're missing the point. You're trying to assess the situation through logic, not the optics of the public relations used in politics. He could have single handedly led the Japanese to invent cold fusion and solve both the world's energy and pollution crises, but he's still going to get dinged in the realm of politics if he's using what's seen as wasteful by those who do exactly what he does in their private lives. Rush Limbaugh might fly from NYC to FLA twice a week on his private A320, but if Gore is on a private G5, he's going to get blasted because flying commercial (even first class) can be spun as being more environmentally friendly.

So again, Gore bloodies his own nose by logically doing what may be the most efficient method for the use of his time and resources, but not projecting the right public image in the process.

Politicians use really dumb attack ad premises, news at 10! :D

The vast majority of the planet (a bit of hyperbole there) is not on the fence - they're in full agreement that man has a measurable impact on the climate. American neo-cons are in essence the last hold outs and they're never going to buy in. If Al Gore when off the grid completely they'd simply pivot and call him a nutbag hippie with no credibility.

I'm sorry but this doesn't seem to apply to conservatives, so why should it apply to liberals? If you're campaigning for austerity, why pass tax cuts for zillionaires? If you're campaigning against abortion, why is there a sitting member of Congress who paid for his mistress' abortion, yet is still being re-elected? If you're campaigning for morality, why support a guy on this 3rd marriage who's paying off porn stars that he step with while wife #3 in home with an infant?

They are not our teachers

The local Cardinal Archbishop refuses to take action against his predecessor as his allegations (ha!!) of abuse didn't happen in the DC Archdiocese.

It is always "somebody else's problem."

No offense, but I don’t give a shot what the planet thinks. I care what science thinks**.

Science thinks that anthropogenic climate change is more factual than cigarette-caused cancer.

** and neither should you. Not that you do though.

Sorry Warren and Sanders. No one cares about Puerto Rico. They're not Americans.
Everything dems propose at this point is purely symbolic and isn't gonna pass, like the 2 year college plan the house dems just proposed. You propose it and when the other side shoots it down (no matter how pragmatic it is) you use it against them.

Re: 115th Congress the final chapter: And Gerry Mander as the Speaker.

If it goes nowhere, it can't hurt tho. Puerto Ricans are Hispanics.

Different Hispanics care about different things. Hillary lost Florida because her and Obama supported talking and trading with Cuba. All the Cuban-Americans voted for ****tard because of that.

When some of your ancestors were put up against the wall and shot by Fidel and his people, it tends to color your thinking.
