New Glarus' regular offerings are vastly overrated. They were tremendous 10-15 years ago but they stopped developing new (and I suppose you could call them trendy) beers. They have a few now that are still at least a 4.5/5. But their six-pack material has been disappointing relative to other beers available.

I do. The first two years tech, or community college should be mandatory and free. After that you're on your own. Right now High School prepares you for nothing but a huge debt.

Correct. High school needs an overhaul. No reason after 12 yrs of school people need more “training” to become employable

The best and worst thing I ever did was take AP courses. I started out as a junior and was taking chemical engineering and advanced chemistry courses my freshman year. They don't teach you how to learn in AP courses. They actually teach you the material. In college, the professor would tell you what you had to learn and then you would have to learn it. I didn't grasp this concept until my sophomore year. Took me until my final year to get my grades back up.

All of it would have worked out too if it weren't for one bad bit of advice from an advisor. Told me I needed organic chemistry for chemical engineering coursework, which was a crock of ****. Would have completed both degrees in three years.

We should be taught how to learn earlier than that. If you are waiting until high school there is something wrong with the system.

I disagree. I don't find the current number of years of schooling to be too much. And I do think you need the two years after that is over. I do agree, however, that they need to learn how to learn as early as possible.

Mookie isn’t saying it is too much. Mookie is saying that there are gaps that are wasting time.

I don't think so. There is also the maturity angle. I think we have the right timeline for the vast majority of students.

Good point, but that can be shifted.

Generations ago we had “adults” working at ages that frightened us today. Those folks were mature. Today they can be moved back there in a safe way - not being in steel mills at 18 or whatnot, but undergoing productive learning and being prepared for life.

Us immature folks can continue to be sheltered in university until 22 :)

College and high school are entirely different types of learning.

So that’s why one cost $$$$$$$ than the other? :)

Mookie didn’t say do away with college.

Many people are going where they don’t need to and can (should) learn skills in high school to reach success.

High school should be teaching skills that are needed to fill the workforce in the locale/state/country.

We don’t need free college to fill the ned

Community college is essentially built into the standard English school system. It's 100% paid for when you use a public option, and kids can be dropped for bad grades. The few times I've seen it depicted in UK tv shows, it looks more like an extended high school. If kids move on for more schooling from there, they're going to University, not college.

Great concept. We'll never do it, because, Republicans. But, I like it.

I really like Two Women and Spotted is always good. That said I'm not drinking as much beer as I used to and so I'm not that picky these days when I finally drink one.

Awful beer? Their microbreweries aren't as abundant as MN's but Central Waters, Sprecher, and New Glarus all have good stuff. I'm sure there are smaller ones I don't know about that are good too.

Who cares about microbreweries? The vast majority of Sconnies drink Miller or The Beast. Their idea of craft brew is taking the Leinies Tour.

Ah ok i get it now, I wasn't sure what you meant at first. And yeah... forgot about Beast

Re: 115th Congress - Fantastik! Try to remember we vote in November.

Whynt in high school. That can substitute in a science.

Some high schools do offer that, or they're partnered with a career tech institute. You're still somewhat limited by the options they provide, but I know a few people who were able to either get a low level certification or at least get experience in something they wanted to do through that avenue.
