11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

The ferry is more expensive and more travel time than just driving around, it's more of a novelty than anything else.
Yeah, but if you take the ferry you can get a BJ without getting interrupted by the rumble strip.

I predict the WCHA tourney ends up at the Resch Center....It's the best choice in terms of size, geography and is a good compromise location for the MN teams, Ferris and BGSU. Also, I don't think there are any other very good options.

I think the Nacho tourney will be at the X. UMD, St. Cloud, NoDak, Denver and CC will all like the location even if they get only 2/3 of the past attendence. Again, I don't think there are many other good options for Nacho....holding it at any member school's rink is less attractive than the X for reasons already mentioned....accommodations, distance, etc......perhaps the Bradley Center once in a while for Miami and Western fans.

B1G on the other hand, has a lot of options for their tourney. I'd guess it will rotate.

For selfish reasons, I'm pulling for the Resch center as well. :).

I don't see Denver letting the Nacho tourney be in Minnesota every year, they seem to think they're hot stuff... They'll want it in Colorado some years.

ummm...wait...Ludington to Manitowoc...4 hours. you think you can drive Ludington to Manitowoc in 4 hours? I don't think so. the ferry is pretty fun and fast. been doing it since I was a kid.

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

Kind of surprised that no one is talking about using Van Andel for the nWCHA tournament site.....although the Bradley Center would be slightly more geo-centric.

The X would be close to the geo-center for the NaCHos, however the Pepsi Center or Qwest Arena (Omaha) would be the better choice for attendance, since the Colorado teams do not travel, period. Either way, whatever building they use will be less than half full most years.

HN and Shirtless - I hope to see a thing of beauty tonight - three entirely full sections of Misfits - tip o the hat to the founders!

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

this from USCHO:

Minnesota State (1-5-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) at No. 16 Michigan Tech (5-2-1, 3-2-1 WCHA)

Tyler: Tech is seemingly unbeaten at home so far this season and as big as a win would be for MSU, the injuries will still hurt them. Tech sweep

Brian: The Mavericks lead the all-time series 23-14-4 and have won five of the last eight meetings (5-2-1). But the Huskies' hold an 11-10-3 edge at home in the series and stand 5-0-1 overall this season at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena, outscoring opponents 21-11 in the process. An already offensively-challenged Minnesota State team is far from healthy while MTU will be suiting up last week's offensive and defensive players of the week in Milos Gordic and Josh Robinson respectively. Tech takes a pair.

"seemingly" unbeaten?? what the heck does that mean?

I'm guessing he meant "seemingly unbeatable"

No one has said USCHO journalists will be winning Pulitzers anytime soon. ;)

Let's go Tech! No letdowns, please.

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

Holy ****, its Friday. That means we can talk hockey now, right?

Is the player that was sick last weekend, I believe it was one of the Johnstones, going to be back? If so, that would be the first time with a completely healthy lineup for Tech, I believe, since Gordic was out early, and Johnstone went out when Gordic came back. With that lineup, Tech should be able to put up goals, on almost anyone.

I really think that this is a key stretch for this team. The next 6 games are games that a good team goes 4-2 in, at the very worst, more likely 5-1 with a shot at 6-0. If this team wants to be for real, they need to go out and take care of business agains Mankato, UAA and St. Lawrence, and put up wins against teams a good team should beat. It will be interesting. Since I'm still not sold that this team can make that big of a turnaround, I'm guessing 3-3 over this stretch, splitting all 3 series.

5-1 Tech on Friday
3-2 Mankato on Saturday

You forgot Tommy Brown, he's still out from his appendectomy. steander tweeted that he's hoping to be back for GLI.

Ah, yeah, forgot about him. Damm appendix. That recovery time is pretty weak. Matt Holliday was back in 9 days after getting his appendix removed! (I know, I know, baseball does not equal hockey)

This is, indeed, a huge stretch. That was a pretty solid October, but I don't think they're going to catch anyone by surprise now. For various reasons, November always seems to be a difficult month for Tech, and I'd like to see us start to change that this year. Going .500 would actually be a step in the right direction, but I'd like to see us start by defending home ice with two wins this weekend.

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

Tech going with Robo tonight I assume?

Re: 11/04-11/05 Michigan Tech vs. Minn State - A Civil Chat Among Future WCCHA Teams

I think that's a safe bet. I expect them to roll with the senior until he has a bad game or needs a night off.

Robo's done well, but I don't agree it's a safe bet. Mel has expressed that he wants to keep them both involved and this weekend is probably a good time to get Genoe in there for a game.

Could be, we'll see. I figure Robo will get tonight's start though. Depending on how we do, maybe Genoe gets a game tomorrow - I wonder how he's looked in practice.

I'm coming from Appleton, so my times are a bit skewed there. Add an hour to go East instead of south. Most places you're trying to go to aren't Ludington or Manitowoc. At least for me, it's out of my way to use the ferry. And like I said... $$$$$$

Anyways. I think we see Robo and a Tech sweep this weekend, at least that's we SHOULD see.
