The amazing thing about that quote is it follows Eaves saying he didn't see the play himself. He's judging it based on how sheepish the referee might have been feeling, and a comment from some assistant about how it went down. Then he pulls this beauty out. Not a good lesson to teach his young players about responsibility.
I always thought Eaves was a classy guy. The reporter must have caught him at a really bad time. I thought the refs were pretty evenhanded throughout the game, they let the WI skaters get away with some cheap hacks after the whistle earlier on... not a big deal.
If I was a WI fan, I'd be wishing for a different outcome too. It just really feels good to be on this side of all the whining for one day.
