10/14-10/15 Wisconsin at Michigan Tech: Foulest Smell? Skunk in Popcorn Box or Ferret

Re: 10/14-10/15 Wisconsin at Michigan Tech: Foulest Smell? Skunk in Popcorn Box or Fe

Two huge wins to start the WCHA schedule. What a weekend. Both go into overtime. What more could a Husky fan ask for? Hoping for more happy Friday's and Saturday's this year.

:)

I disagree. I'll take success in any league and whatever follows in the NCAAs from there! (and I know deep down you feel the same way:) )

GO TECH!
I want to prove they can do it in the current wcha...not the wccha.

Congrats to MTU. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Wow! A couple of great games at the SDC! Tough losses for a young but capable Wisconsin team. Tech certainly has some offensive firepower this year. Just wait until Gordic comes back. Seems like the new, up-tempo style works well for the Huskies. These were close games and Tech needs to continue to improve if they want to beat the big boys this year. So far, I'm extremely impressed by Mel, Billy and Steve. Although the team has most of last year's players, they look like a different team in all aspects. I dont' recognize Josh Robinson at all and the defense looks completely different. Let's hope they can keep it up with a Bemidji team that I believe can play as tough as the Badgers did.

great highlight clip here shows several things

1. mcleod or whomever that took a 5 min major for MTU. the badger announcers thought it was precipitated by a knee from ramage, and thought mcleod's hit on dahl should have been 5 and a game. BOTH WERE WRONG. solid hip check from Ramage into Mcleod (sp?) get gets him on the thigh. the call was bs on mcleod though. maybe, maybe a 2min charging? but not a 5 IMO. that was a shoulder to shoulder hit and I don't see why that was a 5.

2. what was Rumpel thinking on that OT shot? he didn't slide over and hold the post like you're supposed to. that will be a point of emphasis w/him going forward I hope. instead he sort of 1/2 slid and wildly swung his stick out. that was an easy goal for MTU.

What was impressive was tech outshot UW by about a 4-0 margin on the major with some grade A chances.

My take on the series is that UW has some talent but now tech does as well and they outworked them for at least 4 of the 6 periods which resulted in the two wins.

Tech did outwork UW, like NMU did for large stretches last weekend. That 5-minute major was a joke for UW. if the penalty killers have more scoring chances than the team on the PP there's a huge problem in work ethic.
...Adam Burish would be taking kids apart for that lack of effort. Looks like UW still needs an on-ice leader

I have no doubt you guys will bounce back this season. Eaves is just too good of coach. You guys are young. Younger than us even. I bet by the time we play you in November, some of your young guys will have settled in and you'll be as tough as ever to play against.

The hip check looked legit. MacLeod should've gotten 2 for charging, instead of the 5 for boarding. Still, that turned into a big kill for Tech, despite the late tying goal by the Badgers.

As for Rumpel, he was clearly aware of the play and tried to poke check/trip Olson as he came out from behind the net, but he couldn't get the stick back in place for the shot.
