Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Keep The Calendar At Zero

I think of that as more Darwiny, whereas this thread is about muthaf-ckas mass killing with a big assist from the NRA. Not sure it resets the clock -- can I get a ruling?

It doesn't. This is more of a Darwin thing.

Darwin.

This is the key part: The boy was in the couple’s bedroom on Saturday afternoon when he found a loaded, unsecured handgun between the bed’s box spring and the mattress, Abbott said.

yes, but.... one should look at their situation to see if that gun placed with easy access was actually needed OR were they swayed by the NRA argument that everyone should be armed?

The NRA's support of the gun industry isn't just about getting people to buy a lot of useless guns that have a fast firing rate and a high capacity to put rounds out quickly- it's also about getting guns to people who really don't need them. Make them scared and think that they do, and another gun is sold. And another risky situation was set up, and another pointless loss that people can blame on the gun owner.

lather, rinse, repeat.

Sure, but at that point might as well blame the mother herself for passing down an oversized amygdala and an undersized cerebrum. It was an elaborate suicide.

Every could be armed. BUT, it's the carelessness and irresponsibility of the owner in this case. Whether they needed a gun or not doesn't matter. It was loaded and not secured; in other words, not stored properly.

rotflmao

Way to ignore the obvious statistic.

We should all carry grenades. The whole idea is to engage your target at range before they can reach you. It's fine as long as they are stored and secured correctly.

?

I think the principle of not putting people in a position to get themselves in trouble would apply to weapons. It does matter if they have been coerced into thinking they need a gun when it is obvious the people coercing are also not providing the same sort of coercion to make sure they are safe. Sort of like giving a prescription that could do harm if not used the right way but not stressing the risks of that. If I do that I am negligent and culpable. I don't see any less responsibility here. It might not be something they can pin on the NRA legally. Morally I have no problem thinking they are responsible for creating a culture that encourages people who are ignorant thru lack of education re risks or just stupid about them. THe NRA gains nothing by encouraging responsibility. To do that they would have to admit things that would curtail their goal of weaponizing the populace

The woman doesn't qualify for a Darwin award either, as the article said she was in stable condition.

Heard a story last night about a bump stock ban going into effect in 90 days. Manufacturers of the bump stock were using it as advertising that you only have 90 days to get their product. Of course, they didn't stress in the advertising that after that 90 days it would be illegal to own it and to obey the law you'd need to either destroy it or turn it into authorities once the law goes into effect.

Though if she was shot in the face she's probably not getting much action.

Is it illegal to own or just to sell?
