And no, the second amendment isn't in play until Obama does literally take all the guns.
Add more jails for awhile. The lives it saves will cover the costs in terms of taxes.

Dan Savage was on Real Time on Friday and he says that this is one reason sex work should be decriminalized and de-stigmatized. Some people just don't have the social skills to get laid, and for some people it makes them angry/mentally unstable. Once they get to the incel point, it's too late. I bet The Netherlands doesn't have "incels".

Savage might feel differently if his 18 yo daughter suffering from some mental health issues of her own ended up in the sex trade. Although it might afford her the opportunity to meet lots of much, much older men on a nightly basis. Bad idea.

No good idea. If you regulate it you would get the sex trafficking of minors out of the system. Right now because social conservatives are so psycho NO ONE of age who works in the trade will work as an informant to law enforcement.

Legalize prostitution, make pimping and human trafficking punishable by $30,000-50,000 fine and (no or) 30-50 years in prison. It's useless to go after the johns and prostitutes, but we can get word out there that pimping isn't worth the consequences.

Some people with mental health issues will sign up for anything...but we don't make just any horribly abusive work situation legal. There are plenty of studies showing its not healthy.
I think the reason we're here is that we're trying to make incremental steps towards improving society. There are much better opportunities for improvement than this. Now if we somehow knew that improvements in trafficking would outweigh the negative psychological impacts...you could well have yourself a meaningful solution.

Some fragile women are often forced into it via pimps. Some fragile women are drawn to it to find some manner of self-worth. Some women are drawn to it because it's easy money, so long as they're not caught. People do all sorts of things for various reasons. I'm not worried about the motives, only that they enter into a situation of their own free will. And then we need to keep them safe.

I heard somebody -- maybe Killer Mike -- make the suggestion that we give reparations to blacks for the Drug War by giving them complete control over the pot business, like we gave the Injuns gambling to make up for you know stealing their land and destroying their civilizations and genocide. In that spirit, give the sex trade to the chicks. Give them complete control, regulation, and all the profits, plus all taxation gets earmarked for womens programs. Talk about just deserts.

My impression is the whole business has always been dominated by male coercion, from the protection racket of the pimps to the cops who are paid (well, who actively shake down) to look the other way to the legislators who force the business outside the law in order to render the participants powerless and vulnerable to the Thumpers who fulminate from the pulpit to undercut the demands of the workers for agency.
See also: drugs and undocumented labor. Extra-legal status is one of the many tools the powerful use to reduce the powerless to the status of slavery. The law is an excellent tool for exploitation because unlike overt violence it has a large majority buy-in from people who never imagine they can be harmed by it. It's an ideal cudgel.
