You must think elder abuse is a myth. I know people who work in that area and it most definitely isn’t. I noticed the story completely ignores his side of what happened.

As someone who frequently cares for the elderly...they are the last people you want to have a gun when they become delirious. A mild urinary tract infection in a healthy 50 year old can be absolutely devastating in a 80 y/o. They can become absolutely psychotic, violent, aggressive to staff and family members. But sure...give them their guns.

My mom had a UTI while being cared for as an Alzheimer's patient. She was 70 years old and it took three aides to subdue all 5'0" of her. Granted, she was a strong woman, but she was still barely 5'0" tall and 70yo.

But if she had a gun she could take on the three guards and be charged with attempted murder you see.

Our hospital has a "code violet" which calls in police muscle when patients become violent. It is often an unfortunate escalation as it takes an already scared patient who is mostly reacting in a fight or flight way and turns it up a notch. But I am happy that there are no guns involved...

I try to avoid that whenever possible, however if my nursing staff or the patient are in danger, there is often little choice. I have frequently had to dodge the fist of a octogenarian while trying to calm a delirious patient down before things escalate. It is often the first time the family sees a patient that out of their mind and it is a very scary experience. The patients come out of it, of course, with treatment of their underlying illness but it can takes weeks to months to return to normal (and often will not happen in the hospital or skilled nursing facility because of the difference in their surroundings).

My mom's incident happened at her nursing home. According to the one aide, she said that when my mom saw the police walk through the door she went from a raging Hulk to an innocent little flower. The aide said it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen, and didn't expect to have to talk to the policemen on the scene while holding back laughter. They called me twice while I was on my way - I live about 20 minutes from where my mom was living then. They didn't know about the UTI until after I was forced to take her to the ER for an examination.

I am sorry that both of you had to go through that. Hopefully everything turned out OK after treatment.

But think about how she could have expressed her second amendment rights? That would teach that facility to abuse her....right Drew?

Re: 0 Days Since Last Mass Killing: Maybe It's the Person, Not the Gun...

When expressing your rights you should always put 2 before 1. Much better efficiency that way.

Single payer health care, treat elders with care and respect, etc. It would be awful.

Yes so keep voting for the party who cuts funding for health care, elderly care, every kind of care.

Thanks for providing some much needed humor though.

Well, he wants all that care, but he doesn't want it coming from his pocket. Because why should *those* people benefit from his hard work?

Why should he pay for it? The Government never does anything for him.

Interesting comments from Eric Church on the gun situation, specifically in relation to the Las Vegas mass shooting last year.

Unsurprisingly, he's getting some blowback from his fans.

"There are some things we can't stop," the 41-year-old told Rolling Stone. "Like the disgruntled kid who takes his dad's shotgun and walks into a high school. But we could have stopped the guy in Vegas."

He added, "I blame the lobbyists. And the biggest in the gun world is the NRA."

The artist was one of the headlining acts at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas when a crazed gunman opened fire at the crowd of festival-goers while Church's fellow country star Jason Aldean was performing in October 2017.

At least 59 lives were lost during the shooting, which is now known as the biggest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Mass Killing: Maybe It's the Person, Not the Gun...

Yeah that one is big. I think David Hogg mentioned it on Twitter but those aren't gonna show up in a metal detector screening either. That's just another potential issue as theoretically they'd be easier to conceal, not to mention all the other issues related to it now being easier to manufacture and sell them without any oversight.

Nice. Now anyone can make their own plastic gun. Awesome.
