Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

It sounds like Casey like a lot of younger players is waiting for people to retire. PWHL expansion is providing more opportunities but it has also given older players a way to stick around past their primes. I eagerly await not having to hear about some of them ever again.

Since the same investors that own the PWHL just spent billions to buy the NBA Lakers maybe they could have added more than two teams this season.

I mean nothing against O'Brien, but Carpenter and Heise are the US's top two centers and I don't think she has a game suited for the lower lines. Janecke had been 3C but moved to 1LW for this tournament and was awesome. Is hers a game you really want on the wing? Or as the 13th forward? I think it's going to be somewhat of an uphill climb. Will be rooting for her as a Sirens fan though.
Cracking the National team is almost impossible. I'd be happy if she was a 2nd line C for the Siren.

I do my best not to count out Casey when she sets her mind to something. Kinda like when KK's dad questioned whether she'd make the team last time. That "Bye, Daddy" video is priceless.

Passing the summer doldrums by pondering whether or not Stewart will get any non-injury starts in goal. McNaughton certainly has proven she deserves the bulk of if not all the starts. Historically MJ doesn't split time goalies just to do it. He does it when he truly don't now know which should be the #1, which is rare. Stewart may be the best back-up since ARD, who ended up starting her last 3 years and played in 12 games as a Fr when Rigsby was injured. The other side of the coin is will Stewart want to sit for 2 years? She has Olympic aspirations as well. Will there be some under the table poaching pressure?

Offseason doldrums - let's play line coach - Here's my guess - to start the season:
Line 1: Simms, Hall, Edwards
Line 2: Enright, Picard, K. Gorbatenko
Line 3: McCarthy, Scannell, Halverson (no change)
Line 4: Sapovalivova, Pieckenhagen, N. Gorbatenko
Floats: Vasseur & Zilisch
- Fun times - all three Gorbatenko's out - just to have fun with the announcers!

Defense -much harder - and probably will be a blender to start:
D Pair 1: Harvey, Jungels
D Pair 2: Potter, Venusio
D Pair 3: Murphy, Jones
D Pair 4: Bickett, R. Gorbatenko'

Goalie - McNaughton, but I think Steward gets healthy Ava starts. Ava gets playoff games and high profile games. - Is Ava going to the Olympics - Great opportunity for Rhyah there I suppose.

Eden?

Badgers are at the Brewers-Dodgers game today. "Recognized" on field before the game, McNaughton threw out the first pitch, while (I think) Scannell stood by holding the trophy.

Only the second inning, so no word on the Sausage Race yet. (No, I'm not at the game; just watching on TV, and checking 'social media'.)

I think Scannell has more offensive upside than Picard, who was great on the 3rd line. I'd also flip McCarthy and Sapovalivova, but MJ likes to bring the Fr F along slowly. I'd like to see what she can do playing a regular shift.

I got a rather cryptic response on the sausage race, but I think it told me that 1) yes, the team got to be in the sausage race. And 2) Maggie Scannell was the Brat; Nicole Gorbatenko was Stoch, the Polish; Kelly Gorbatenko was Guido, the Italian; Charlotte Pieckenhagen was Frankie the Hot Dog; and Ava McNaughton was Cinco the Chorizo.

"Guido" led pretty much the whole way, until suffering a (fake) hamstring injury, allowing "Cinco" to pass him at the wire to win the race.

It's getting to be time for us to hear about season ticket sales, and we don't even have an official non-conference schedule yet.

I wonder if they're having trouble filling in a third non-conference weekend, and that's delaying things. Reminds of the year that whichever Ivy it was bailed out on them, and they ended up playing LIU at the start of LIU's first season.

If it's the same as last year, I don't expect to get the invitation to buy (much more expensive) season tickets for three weeks or so. What home game will be moved to a neutral site after we have paid for season tickets this year? I always look forward to being offered the chance to pay extra for something I have already purchased.

Or have to buy/pay for something you have no intention of using? It's not a lot of money, it's the principal that the UW is completely tone deaf when it comes to the fans.

TDM wrote a nice article about the 5 most important UW wins in the last 25 years and a nugget buried in there was Katey Stone was offered the UW job before MJ was, but turned it down. That makes a person push the buttons on the what if calculator pretty hard.
