USCHO Music: From Queen to The Beatles to Lady Gaga

I had an hour drive to see family and put Is This It on from The Strokes. Damn that's a great album.
I grew up liking a lot of the music my dad liked, so a lot of classic rock, with zeppelin being my all time fave

As a young one freshly out of college, Is this It was the first non-classic album I purchased that I always played all the way through. Every song is just a banger

I listened to Pet Sounds in its entirety over the weekend. I had honestly never heard the title track and I now realize there are god knows how many "progressive rock" bands that owe a massive debt to that instrumental.
Back when I was trying to listen to all of the top 500 RS albums I had started with the top and working back before someone correctly mentioned that I was going in the wrong direction.

Pet Sounds is still the greatest album I have ever heard. Even all these years later. Just an all around masterpiece.

Oh and DGF is dead on about God Only Knows.

It’s just a beautiful song.
It was also very controversial at the time because it was the first song on the radio that specifically used “God” with its lyrics. 1960s America, how quaintly superstitious it was. Not like our sensibly taken actions of pray-the--measles-away ethos today.

I recently heard an author on a podcast discussing Michael Jackson’s later period songs as getting more overtly
Political. Guess I’m going to have to dive into those lyrics. Evidently “They Don’t Care About Us” is one of the big ones.

I haven’t heard any of his music subsequent to Bad …So this will be interesting.

The best songs on Pet Sounds are brilliant, but there is too much filler for my taste including You Still Believe in Me, That's Not Me, Don't Talk, Let's Go Away For a While, I Know there's an Answer and I Just Wasn't Made.

I fully understand where Pet Sounds stands in musical lore and I'm on an island for the most part. But I just do not appreciate the album as a whole.
