Wcha 24 25

Anybody think that there might have been a Muzzy tirade in there somewhere?

I was watching Wisconsin playing in the Big Ten men's basketball tournament just now, and they pitched a discount of half off for annual subscriptions for BTN-Plus.

So I went to my BTN-Plus account, went to the subscriptions page, which showed my renewal payment isn't due until August, at $90 for the all-access plan. I typed in the discount code, "ANNUAL25", and it accepted it and apparently applied it to my next renewal; the price on the page dropped from $90 to $45.

If you're a subscriber, go give it a look. Half-off your next renewal.

(I checked my credit card account, and it didn't charge the renewal, so that must come at the August renewal date.)
Thank you! This worked (my subscription comes up in September). Saved enough to buy some popcorn at LaBahn . . .

Without question.

I'm glad UMD is out, they scared me the most. It probably makes TWSNBN's path easier.
Cornell's goalie, Bergmann, was the #1 goalie on the U18 team for the US, with McNaughton #2. She is plenty good enough to beat them. They just need somebody to score. The one goal they got today was a low-to-high pass that deflected in off a Duluth leg/skate.

ECAC teams score 5 goals in 4 games today.

Isn't Cornell a lot like UMD with a slightly better offense? The advantage UMD had is they are accustomed to playing you and they are familiar with playing in Ridder. Other than that, Cornell is more likely to win a game against a very good team and is the bigger threat. The Columbos aren't scared of you, so I see the danger presented by them and the Big Red to you as being very similar. I don't think the 'nuts were ever going to lose to this version of UMD in the FF after getting swept to start the year.

After UM was so bad in Madison, I thought they had a chance in the next meeting, because it is hard for a coach to convince his squad that the sad sack of a team they just played could ever present a threat. After the WCHA final, UW will be more than ready in the FF, so the Gophers' only hope is that teams don't routinely beat NCAA caliber teams 10 times in a row. However, most of that is because they don't beat them nine times in a row to start with; if you can do nine, why not 10?

There isn't a place to really put this, and my comments are off-topic for this forum. However, Robert did raise the topic of the Big Ten men's BB tourney in this thread earlier. Hasn't the NCAA made that sport unwatchable? I watched like the last 80 seconds (scoreboard time, not time from my life). I saw at least four replay reviews during that time. I don't think that they changed any of those calls. There were already too many timeouts at the end, and now this. While I watched, I think there was one field goal scored. Mostly I just remember bricks and reviews. As a reward for winning games, Wisconsin gets to play four games in four days, ensuring that they are worn down heading into the NCAAs. When you live in Minnesota, you forget that this tournament is even going on, because the Gophers are already back home with their coach fired long before the weekend. Makes me glad I watch women's hockey instead.

There's an old joke that I first heard told by Bill Walton: if a doctor ever tells you you have only two minutes to live, hope that you're watching the end of a basketball game. Because that two minutes might last an hour.

(I'm pretty sure out-of-bounds possession reviews like that are limited to the final two minutes of the game. And I'm guessing getting that many one after another like happened today is pretty unusual.)

You're right; it's unusual, and often, it is difficult to tell which fingertip touched the ball last. Still, they did spend a long time today looking at plays where it wasn't too difficult to figure the owner of the foot that the ball hit on its way out. At least in hockey, it is easier to understand why they need replay. The puck comes out quickly if it hits the bar inside the net and there can be a lot for a human to sort out in real time for some offsides plays, where the puck and the skate are entering the zone in different locations and at different speeds. We didn't even get into the foul game, which can really turn the final couple minutes into an eternity.

Well then that betters the odds they dump TWSNBN. I think who ever wins the border battle would rather play Cornell. It's born out that this year TWSNBN are not as strong as the last few seasons (but obviously a very strong team), but this roster has won the big one before, so that makes them as dangerous as ever.

FWIW, I'd definitely prefer Cornell than vs. an Institution of Higher Learning in Franklin County, Ohio.

Not least because she'll still be incredibly furious about the game in Duluth...

It looks like someone finally picked Ohio State to win in the semi's. Only 7 voters in the poll above. Don't people know where to look?
Top thread -- Polls. Time is running out people!

I have never thought to click on polls, but there you go. I voted for my preferred outcome.

I see the games are at 5 pm and 830pm tomorrow. Is that EST?

This is great….game one used to be much earlier.

Yes, that's Eastern time, It's an hour later than last year, but for both last year and this it's been 4 and 7:30 in the time zone local to where the games are being played.

flashbacks to driving home to minneapolis from Duluth in 2023 (I had a commitment that saturday) in the middle of a snow storm, incredibly angry about a Bob Kaehler officiating job in our semifinal game. Took four hours.

March snowstorms are the worst. Got caught in one on the way home from an OSU QU game a couple years back. It’s like they had either run out of money for snowplowing or just put the equipment away for the year on 271. I will definitely stay over if I attend another game.

Thanks for the time zone info RE. Cannot wait to watch. How crazy would it be if we got a Cornell Minnesota final? Reminding myself that in theory there are no foregone conclusions!

As it is playing out with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd, TWSNBN is taking away the crazy of Cornell making it to the final...Could soon be all WCHA teams left in the field.

Lol, one more chance. Come on Minnesota.
Impressive by Ohio State to be back in the championship game. Nice for transfer Disher to get a big goal today.
