TV 20 - Sorry no fancy title

I couldn't pick out the guest from a hole in the wall (I looked her up, never heard of anything she's been in although I am aware of the grey movie) it was still a better overall episode from Week 1.

40 years ago, Double Dare premiered on TV.

When I was a kid, I wanted to dig around in slime to find a flag.

Now the physical challenge is just getting off the floor without a plan.

Two episodes into East of Eden; it might not suck (yet).

It's hard to imagine a book that deep and philosophical not being utterly soiled by television, but so far at least it's been cromulent. The actors playing Charlie and Cathy are outstanding.

I'm not sure the director understood the book, given some of his choices. If he really means to imply Cathy was abused* as a child, that is utter horseshit and cowardice. The ENTIRE point of the book is some evil is innate. It does not spring from events or conditions. It is not contingent, it is sui generis. So if that is the intent then that choice is an ignoble and ridiculous betrayal of Steinbeck and should be horse laughed out of the room.

* I suspect it was a deliberate tactical choice, playing to a contemporary audience the director did not feel was grown up enough to handle an irredeemably evil female character. That's sad but it may have been a smart marketing choice given the preponderance of small brains.

Shane Gillis is in hot water over his “all the women at the gym dress like whores” monologue joke on SNL this weekend. Gillis still not beating the “generic white guy” allegations.

Meanwhile, Lorne Michaels continues to escape unscathed for platforming the worst people over the years.

Comedy works by being transgressive against hemlines.

Looks like it's working.

My problem with Gillis is his aw shucks thing wears thin, quickly. He's average. But, the very best comedians leave everyone in the room uncomfortable and irate. Otherwise it's just a mean girls session with your funny friend, and that's lame.

I love Rivers and Carlin, but they were always "Hey, those people you hate? I hate them too; I'll make jokes at their expense!" Fan service. Pryor, Chappelle, and Louis have said things that have made me feel angry and personally attacked, and have made me wince and react they're awful for saying something like that. That's why they are exceptional.

Gillis is a shining beacon of Rogan’s Austin comedy scene: Hacky, unfunny, tired schlock presenting itself as some cutting edge rebellion.

It’s little wonder that tech bros and old, rich white people love it.

He made fun of himself as much as he made fun of "whores" and he's nowhere near a Rogan lackey. He was making fun of Trump long before the Rogansphere finally caught on.

He shouted out Rogan and Theo Von in the same monologue. I don’t really buy it from Gillis.

Haven't watched this past week's monologue, but based on his previous ones, did he spend so much time on canned retorts to shocked audience responses he expected to get that only like 20% of the time was spent on actual jokes?

SNL UK (or at least their Weekend Update) is the best thing on television everywhere.

Chef's Kiss.

Giving him shit for dropping the F bomb is lame.

He's an ordinary comic and a host should be extraordinary. I'm not sure why he has been on repeatedly -- I assume Lorne is trying to drop the median audience age below 60. The haters are ridiculous; that's like hating a mediocre cottage cheese. His sin is not in being ANATHEMA, it's being boring and derivative.
