RPI 2026-27: Houston Field House, We Have Lift-off!

Unless there is a broad desire for a change, I will continue to count shootout victories and losses as ties. Wins and losses in OT will be the same as regulation wins and losses, respectively, even though OT is not 5 on 5.

After a win that thread's starter will start the thread for the next game. After a loss or tie, anyone else can start the next thread, That thread must be started after midnight. Threads should be posted in the Score Updates forum https://fanforum.uscho.com/forums/score-updates.19/ .
With this board running as slow as molasses not so sure the scores thread will be maintained during a game well. I find being able to post simply a hit or miss situation. And this is when there is virtually no activity on here. i can only imagine the delay when there are tons of posts during 30 or 40 or more games in progress.

I don't want to jinx it, but there were no problems last weekend.

There is a much larger slate of games today - not that I am sure that makes a difference. Just very frustrating to try to post and have to wait 10 minutes or more at times and have a few times where you cannot get on for much longer.

I remember that. What a debacle that was for a new league and a new franchise that spent a lot of money luring big names from the NHL. Biggest waste of money was around 3 million for a washed up over the hill Derek Sanderson.

What arena was that? I don't think it was the old Spectrum where the Flyers played.
The Blazers played at Convention Hall, former home of the 76ers and before them, the Warriors. As far as I know, hockey had never been played at Convention Hall prior to the Blazers' arrival. Previous Philadelphia pro hockey teams (other than the Flyers) had played at the ancient Philadelphia Arena.

The Spectrum had its own problem in its initial season of 1967-68, when part of the roof blew off during a windstorm. The Flyers had to play a number of scheduled home games on the road.

I don't think that the problem has anything to do with legitimate posters.

Channel 10 had a deep roster of sports reporters. Griffin Haas and Tommy Valentine are the best in the business right now. Now that Haas got the promotion to anchor, Balentine is clearly head and shoulders above everyone else

Statement win from Eric. Top 10 recruiting class, big physical team..dare I say I may even put the OGC tag on Eric. Glad I advocated for the change even though I took a ton of crap from some. Btw - Great call from Larry on the telecast, made old section 8 crowd proud. LGR

Just came back from HFH, what a game! First off, great to have the Cherry & White back in full swing. with a win. A few brief thoughts:
The Great: It starts with Krawchuk's shutout. He faced a lot of quality shots and stopped them all with a fantastic butterfly technique. Looked really good last year and looking great this year! Also, Rullers with 2 goals and was looking dangerous at other times. Very Haaland-esque, keep feeding him!
The Good: The first line clearly is head and shoulders above the rest of the team. Good energy, crisp passes, good backchecking. Individually, Sobieski's stickhandling and vision is pro-level and Goukler and Sitar are the engine for the rest of the lines. Their energy and forechecking was great to see. Goukler in particular reminded me of the Plantes (a bit).
The Not-So-Great: RPI's inability to hold the offensive zone. Their counter rushes are lethal (especially on the penalty kill) but sustained effort in the offensive zone doesn't seem there yet. Also, I understand why Tapper was seeking payback given that a OSU player clearly went high with an elbow on a RPI player a few seconds before but leaving his feet and going full-throttle into a OSU player was a deserved sending-off. That being said, the resulting 5 minute penalty kill was a tremendous feather in this team's cap.
The Ooof: RPI's inability to clear the defensive zone. As much credit as Lang gets for the quick turnaround of this program, RPI laboring to clear the defensive zone at any point during the game brought me right back to the last few years of Dave Smith. RPI can't count on Krawchuk standing on his head every night, they need to help spring that awesome counter attack.

A few thoughts on the HFH: It will take a bit to getting used to the band's placement, no Cotton Eyed Joe and the announcer steamrolling over the crowd's chant regarding penalty announcements. Also, HFH really should rethink about how to route traffic during play by the opposing team's bench. There were a lot of people coming up and over in the stands. Finally, I am so stoked that the shop is selling actual jerseys instead of cheap simulcrums. However, $320 is a SPICY meatball for the jersey. I would buy that thing in a second if it was say 50% of the price.

Great start to the season!
