RPI 2026-27: Houston Field House, We Have Lift-off!

Shots were 42-13. The freshman goalie Bellissimo was a rock in the 10 minutes of play I saw. Northeastern, #5 but playing their first game, had more gas in the tank, particularly 3-on-3, but she was very strong with her stick, using poke checks against break-aways and fast forwards cutting to the net.

On the topic of announcers, I went back to the beginning and they were Josh Richardson and Larry Pulvirent. Larry, who did a few games when Fridge was unavailable, I should have recognized because we played D League hockey together in the dark ages. Josh, on play by play, is another young guy. Is he a Dan Bahl type from a local station? Anyone heard of him? Is this our new announcing team for men and women?

P.S. Josh needs to figure out our new goaltender’s name. He alternated between Belli-seemo and Bel-lees-imo.

i think they did a credible job today - but I hope Josh dials back on some of his most over the top and repetitive comments. He could be really good once that is addressed. Larry is always understated and makes a very good counter to Josh.

Since Sadie Bellisimo won a game, we need Carson Dorfman to play and win tonight. I am positive that we have never had Jewish hockey players win games for both teams on the same day. :D

(I doubt that Leo Serlin will be in goal.:), but he and SImon Motew could contribute. )

It is conceivable that tonight could see 1/2 a minyan on the ice at some point in time

I’m at Tate rink the Boys are up 2-0. Team speed is noticeably better. Goukler is very fast and incredibly shifty. Hadland looks great! Passing has been tape to tape. Transition game is very quick. The new uniforms are absolutely amazing. Tapper, lodewyk, rullers are a dangerous line.

I hope that you don't mind that I posted a link to your post on the game thread.

Didn't see the game, didn't hear the game, but it's nice to know that RPI won and scored five goals in the process. It certainly feels a lot better than losing, and winning 5-4 seems much more exciting than winning by a score like 2-1.

It also seems as though RPI, as Dr. D has commented many times over the years, simply cannot stand prosperity, as they took a two-goal lead, blew it, took a one-goal lead, blew that, then took another two-goal lead and gave one of those goals back before the game was over. But at least they were able to achieve prosperity a few times, which in recent years hasn't been the case as often as we might have liked.

Today's football opponent, Hilbert College, first started playing the sport on a varsity level in 2022. They went 0-7 their first year, 0-8 their second year, 0-10 each of the last two years, and are 0-4 this year. For those of us who remember the time when RPI had a 36-game losing streak and a 43-game non-winning streak, Hilbert has already surpassed the first and is closing in on the second. Don't expect them to give the Engineers much trouble this afternoon.

I know the Liberty League wanted a new member, but taking a college with under 1K students and an endowment of $4M (not a typo) seems absurd. Anyone want to take a bet on whether Hilbert is in the league, or even exists, 5 years from now?

62-0 early in the 2nd half. My freshman year (1964) we only scored 54 points in total which included 20 in a tie vs Nichols breaking a long losing streak.

Final 83-0 and the score was actually far closer than the game could have been. RPI pretty much just tried to run out the clock starting in the third period but it is hard to do when every running play breaks through the line and goes for 20-50 yards and a TD. Looking a head there is of course the chance of some sort of unexpected trouble from Rochester but the two games at the end of the season are as usual, the deciders for the Liberty League championship. Ithaca and Union are most definitely the honest and real competition and we could win both or lose both.
