2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

The Overton Window for the US currently all but excludes the Left. Nor have we ever had a Hard Left federally. Eugene V. Debs is the closest we have ever gotten.

The Schumer Dems are Center-Right on economics and Center-Left on social issues.

Bernie and AOC are garden variety Center-Leftist on economics.

We were talking about your folks feelings that they don't have a political party right now (which very much mirrors my folks btw) - and 1 and 2 posts later people are throwing out crap about white supremacists and BS about black people not being people? Get real. Comparing a govt run grocery store to the bipartisan chips act? You don't think that's a false equivalency?

I have validated your perspective more than once without ad hominem attacks. I also said before I’m cool with you since you vote for Democrats right now when it matters most. I simply disagree with your argument. I believe those people exist, as I have no reason to doubt you, but the answer is still obvious. It’s fascism on the right and half-assed running of democracy on the left. Someone can feel like they’re without a party right now and still recognize how fucking obvious it is to vote for every Democrat from President to dog catcher. If someone is wavering on that, I could give a fuck that he or she feels s/he is without a party.

State owned control of the means of production, there's a name for that. Can't quite put my finger on it........

Edit: 30 companies at last count. But that's all good, right?

I am amused when people call Bernie a Communist because h wants to tax Wall Street. No, a Communist would be taking a bulldozer to Wall Street and building community housing there instead,

A communist would propose re-writing the entire constitution to abolish private property, establish local governing councils to redistribute wealth and basic goods according to household needs, and ensure all of the able-bodied are contributing to production of goods and/or services that ultimately benefit the local community.

Or at least, that's my rough understanding of how "intentional living" communes operate. Now, try to scale that model to a functioning, stable, prosperous nation. At a certain point, it gets too big for its britches.

That's why social democracy/democratic socialism is the best model we have.
 
Capitalism with a fuckload of enforceable guardrails that actually have teeth. Everyone outside of the top 1% should be on board with an insane redistribution of wealth. That we’re not is a testament to a lot of things.

Right - for which the bulk of the funds came from the chips act. For what its worth the shares the government owns are non-voting shares. I would have preferred the original framework of course.

Regardless, its a false equivalency.

And how about trying to have a conversation without the name calling?

So in your world its good for the government to run grocery stores but not to have an equity stake in a product that is very defense department related? Or are both OK? Or is one just bad because Trump played a part in it but if it had been Biden it would have been a great idea?
 
They’re not. We all know that. If putting some DSA members in Congress means we get social democracy instead of this, I’m okay with a few multi-trillion dollar reconciliation bills and actual wealth redistribution. If we’re worried about the DSA actually being a power player, that also means our country is in a far better spot. Like I told Hovey once, assume all of us have the same level of understanding as you but have drawn different conclusions. To do otherwise is to be the condescending twat you think we all are.

There are lots of surveys where the Man on the Street is quizzed about how much the top 1%
  1. owns (they answer 10%)
  2. should own (they answer 5%)

Then they lay the real number on them: 32% and their eyes do cartwheels.

People have no idea how iniquitous our system is.
