Boston University Terriers 2026 Offseason Thread

I think I read somewhere that a player in the portal can go back to their original school but they may lose their roster spot and scholarship since the original team may offer it to a new player replacing them while there “looking.” So, no guarantee of a spot.

I'm torn on this one. High-end prospect. He had a solid Freshman year with room for growth. He was a key contributor to the Swedish U18 team's Gold Medal. We all expected a nice confidence bump when he returned to the Terriers in January, and yet....

Is this a case of the coaching staff not equipped to meet him where he is? A coaching staff who was too hands off? Too hard on him?

This is not the kind of player I want to see a program like BU give up on. Or did he give up on the program? Either way, it's a net negative in my eyes.

Interesting- I think at beginning of the season he was one of the players they expected to go pro after season
After showing little or no improvement clearly needs more time- former 1st round draft choice with lots of potential
winnipeg must not have been interested yet as they retain rights- still only 19

He looked better when Willander was his partner. That would probably the case for many D-men (not a knock on Tretheway) and Sascha just might not be as good as people thought.

in other news, Macklin Celebrini has tied his landlord for the Sharks single season point record. Jumbo’s 114 came the season after he was traded, 06-07. jumbo began his nhl career in 97, this is macklin’s second season. still a teenager. will update if he takes sole possession before the night ends

Good riddance. He was a lazy, careless player for virtually all of last season. And there were several others that also fit that profile. This team will be better without him. I hope he was shown the door rather than choosing to leave. Give me players who work to the top of their ability all game long and have a team first mentality. There is no place for self-interested stars.

Agree that he was horrible but still wonder why the regression and lack of development of others ( Svoboda for example and lack of FR impact). Honestly Hutson was also very underwhelming for a decent part of the season. Only Eiserman who finished strong despite a mid year slump and the 4th line grinders seemed to be impactful. Pandolfo and staff had as much of a bad year as most of the roster. You think Carle for example doesn’t get more out of that roster.

Hard to imagine Carle would ever end up with a roster like the 25-26 Terriers.

Epitomized all this team's problems: lazy skating, endless turnovers, cocky attitude.

maybe im biased but from what i saw and heard from Pando, Svoboda was a bright spot, at least earlier in the season. a lot of "the forwards aren't trying. except for the 4th line and svoboda." he isn't gonna put up big numbers but he does plenty outside of that. because he was one of the guys actually putting in the effort, later in the season he was put higher in the lineup than he really fit, likely in an effort to try and drag some of the higher-end guys into the fight. missed some time with injury too. im not that worried about him personally and i have even more reason to panic over his development than yall lol

with some of the departures i think the sophomore class can come into their own. a void of leadership in a locker room had an effect on the freshmen more than anyone imo, but there were flashes by the end. tough for a guy like Ritchie to settle in to the college game when the locker room isn't a great space, he was figuring some things out by the end. Lawrence remains a dawg.

i do have some concerns on what the blue line looks like. i am a huge fan of Haoxi Wang but he remains a very raw prospect. he improved immensely this season- reality is he had a lot of catching up to do. there's a big void on the blue line and it's unrealistic to expect him to fill it out of the gate.

the one remaining standout defenseman in the transfer portal is Nolan Seed. would be a solid add if they can lure him
 
Seeing Sascha's #'s on the Portal page (2-8-10) I'm like oooof. Shouldn't be hard to replace. I mean .... The brutal turnovers were a thing, but he didn't even balance those out with production on the other end of the ice.

Really, only one defenseman worthy of a job on the BU blue line? One? When does the Portal close? Could someone be a late add?
