2026 Coaching Changes

Idalski would be a great get. It's honestly hard to fathom Minnesota not going to the "has worked for the school before" well, and it's hard to fathom someone who either wouldn't start working right away or would have to leave a job in-season to do so. But I'd love that.
My reaction to Idalski would be the same as my reaction to Muzerall, for pretty much the same reasons. I wouldn't stop being a fan, but it would make the team less fun to root for.

Is Idalski the only one who fits that description? Wasn't there an ECAC or HE coach who went to the PWHL? I apologize for not paying all that much attention to east coast teams. :-)

There's Fargo, the old Colgate coach, with the Sirens (my team). He was a very good college coach for a program that didn't have a ton of resources and very high academic requirements. As someone who is exclusively an easterner for hockey purposes he doesn't seem like a fit.

I have a friend who was a backup goalie for Michigan State in the mid-80s. When I described my first trip to Columbus to watch the Gophers, he said, "They still play in that dump?"
Frustrating for so many reasons. Girls hockey is growing here and it’s hard to even suggest new fans even go watch a game there due to the dysfunction and inequity of the rink.

The fact Frost was let go signals a change in the standards for women’s hockey. That should extend to rinks too.

I don’t want OSU to lose Muzerall; she’s helping drive growth of the game here. Not to mention one of the best coaches in the country. Ideally this would be a wake up call for OSU to build a rink. I don’t think it will be, and it will be sad if they lose her. If they don’t, if Minnesota goes another route I hope it emboldens calls for a new rink in OSU, by the coach herself.

The culture of hockey in Minnesota is different than anywhere else, hockey is everywhere and everything.
No matter who they hire a friend put it to me if you are the head coach at Minnesota you gain God like status in that state.

I don't know where you get your info but you're 100% wrong.

I know sourcing some person on the internet isn't probably a good source but:

Not correct, the fundraising for a new arena has officially begun but we're told unless a mega donor steps up it will take several years to bring in enough funds.

I read this as fundraising by individuals - not funded by the University (allocation of a budget/funds etc) - is that not correct? The University decided that "if some gracious individual wanted to pony up the cash fine - great even, but we aren't going to"

Keep dreaming…. It’s not happening before 2030 at the earliest if ever.
When Muzz leaves for the Goohers the timeline will push even farther out

The official timetable for construction to begin is 4-5 years unless a large donor steps up to advance it. People on forum are only getting their info off the Internet about it. Myself and a few other Ohio State people on forum actually know what's going on with it.

Out of idle curiosity, I decided to go to the Ohio State women's hockey website, to see what it might say about donations and a new arena, etc.

Right up top-right on the main page, there is a "donate" button. hover over it, and you are given three choices, one of which is "sport specific giving". So I clicked on that, and was taken to a page with a long list of sports and links to sport-specific pages. Click on women's hockey, and you are presented with a link to the "Women's Ice Hockey Program Support Fund". Click on the link, and you are taken to the contributions page for ... the Men's Soccer Program. LOL!

Seriously, you can't make this stuff up!

Exactly.

If the mighty Ohio State University wanted to throw a little cash into a new facility for women's hockey, they easily could.

They have decided not to, and instead are waiting on outside donations to fund such a project *IF* it ever happens.

Hence, the university/athletic dept has already made it clear that they aren't going to spend what's needed to keep the coach happy.
