2026 Winter Olympics: Thread Title Under Construction

I get what you're saying, but they will be pissy no matter what. Anger at groups they hate - women, LGBT, right-wing pundits when they occasionally forget who they work for, and anyone slightly to the left of them - is literally the only thing holding those bros and bras together; their entire raison d'etre (not that they'd know what that means).

On a slightly different topic, I’m not a big fan of lefty, liberal sites trumpeting the fact that the majority of the US’ gold medals were won by women. It’s one thing to point out like “hey, this is interesting!” It’s another thing to be using it as an attempt to score political points like they are. It doesn’t accomplish anything and it’s far more likely to alienate potential allies.
Women winning more of the medals in the US been happening for decades. We spent exponentially more on women sports than 80%+ of other nations. China noted that it was the fastest way to catch the Americans in medal count so here we are.

Well, that and paying dual nationals millions to compete for them and keep their mouths shut. 😏

Hey, gotta compete somehow. Might as well try to do it within the rules, rather than juicing your way to victory like Russia and East Germany (oh who am I kidding, China's cheating somehow, too - lots are including probably a few Americans). Or injecting your dick with cheek filler.

Especially in the Winter Olympics. It is notoriously difficult and expensive to train for any event at the Winter Olympics as a male and doubly so for a female. Given our facilities and geographical advantages, it’s disappointing we didn’t win more on the women’s side.

I’m skeptical on American athletes doping on a level that Russia was and China is possibly doing. The USADA has always seemed a little… zealous in their operations.

Given the proliferation of "designer drug" labs creating analogues that won't show on tests, I'm not convinced we're all clean either.

Looks like we have a pretty good idea of who’s not going.

Kyle Connor is confirmed to be back in Winnipeg and practicing.

Oettinger, Lacombe, Nelson, and Guentzel are the others that were seemingly not spotted in a photo of the team boarding a plane for DC.

So we know which five players won’t be on the 2028 World Cup roster.

Update after a bit of digging:

Connor is confirmed to be in Winnipeg.

Nelson is confirmed to be in Colorado.

Guentzel is confirmed to be in Tampa.

Lacombe went to DC.

Oettinger is confirmed to be in Dallas.

Larkin was not on ice per the Wings practice skate video, but Seider was.
For the US players, there's a photo of the team on the boarding stairs of an Air Force 757. Connor, Nelson, Guentzel, Oettinger, and Lacombe were the only ones not spotted in it.

The reporting on Connor, Nelson and Guentzel is solid.

Oettinger is mostly solid, though there's a bit of question because Dallas called up an AHL goalie.

Lacombe is a mystery. A Ducks reporter had said yesterday that he was going to DC but he's not in the photo and he's also not confirmed in Anaheim yet either. Plus it's kinda difficult to get info because the Ducks subreddit is quickly deleting everything remotely involving the Olympic teAM.

I'm genuinely curious - why would it be "doubly" expensive for a female athlete to train for the winter Olympics? I mean, it's pretty much a given that they have crappier facilities, lesser paid coaches, etc... Unless maybe because much of the bill is footed by sponsors for the men but not for the women?

There's only so many places to train and only so many hours in the day. Every Winter Olympic sport is limited in training facilities and coaching, especially in countries where equality in access isn't a legal requirement.

Wings play in Ottawa on Thursday so he will likely be in DC tonight. Coach Todd seemed unhappy with him not being at practice today.

If he sucks the rest of the season like he did after 4 Nations the amount of hate will reach levels I reserve for Michigan hockey.

If they want to be pawns for Trump, let them be pawns, just don't ever let them forget it.

It's the same crap every POTUS since Reagan has done, turning the SOTU in a ridiculous victory lap for whatever policy mediocrity their party has delivered by pretending to hold up some family as a shining example of how it's supposedly "working". Democrats do it with immigrant families, Republicans do it with military/first responder families.

I actually quit watching them entirely after Dump's first or second one, when Pelosi ripped up that farcical speech.

Noticed that as well. Faber looks like more and more of a cake eater.

Lacombe is the only one that hasn't been nailed down. A few different conflicting reports. Though, given the fact that nearly every other Minnesotan has not gone, I'm inclined to believe he's not in DC.
