Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

The good news for women's hockey at P4 schools is basically they need to spend an additional 22 scholarships to account for increases in football and men's hoops (WBB was already at full 15). Baseball could add another 22 and change (have been told in past BC may spend to the max but don't have confirmation)

For BC, I'd argue women's hockey is in the top two in the pecking order to increase scholarship count (with lacrosse).

Major women's sports and increase in max scholarships:

Hockey - 8
Lacrosse - 26
Softball - 13
Volleyball - 6
Soccer - 14
Field Hockey - 15

Boston College currently under rosters in lacrosse (BC only rosters 32 players of a possible 38) , softball (23 of 25), soccer (24 of 28), and field hockey (21 of 27)

Hockey has 24 of 26 this year. Emily Mara complicates it because of playing two sports, she is counted in both for this.

Essentially Boston College has 49 additional athletes in team women's sports than the previous scholarship caps before House and could be "forced" to fund 22 due to football and basketball and maybe another 22 (or part of that) from baseball. Could be offset by cuts on the mens non-revenue side (and at least part definitely will) instead of increasing scholarships on the women's side but the new fundraising plan is focused on funding scholarships.

TLDR: BC should at a minimum be able to get close to the max of 26 scholarships for women's hockey due to being forced to match scholarship adds in football/mens hoops/baseball.
You're assuming that Title IX applies in the post-House world. That has yet to be established. And that football is fully funded. And that a fully funded football program does not imply fewer scholarships for other men's teams. And that the re-balancing will all happen "overnight".

The consensus has been it does for scholarships but not NIL. It won't happen overnight but should within a few years.

Feel very confident about football being fully funded.

Do think that it could take scholarships, but BC's fundraising/$50 million match (as much as you believe in it) will minimize how many men's scholarships are cut.

Folks WE ARE SO BACK AGAIN ahaha
I know you are joking TTT but that win was big and just another example of why I have been so frustrated with BCWIH and the coaching. We have a talented team. We do. There is simply so explanation for NU being 24 points ahead of us in the standings. Hockey East is so bad again this year as a league and this performance by BC again this year is really hard to believe.

Can we fix it and make a run to a HE Title ? Of course we can but with this coaching staff I wouldn't put any money on it

Ava Thomas right on cue with that goal. BC has to figure out a way to keep her.
agree @Reddington but why would she stay ? Team stinks. Coaches are helpless. No chance at competing nationally for the foreseeable future, Good players don't get better. In fact they get worse so no chance at ever playing for Team USA or PWHL

So please tell me why would any good player stay ? For the BC education ? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

So the pro is this coaching staff was able to recruit Ava Thomas to BC. The con would be that Holy Cross is ranked higher than BC.

I get it, but changing coaches has worked out for Ohio State and St Thomas, but it has not worked out for BU, Syracuse, Providence, RPI and Harvard.

I think that Newha is making it harder on the non-top teams.

Goals this Olympics.

The four American Eagles end with 11 goals and 12 assists (23 points)

Most by any schools alums for Team USA.
Knight's goal put the Wisconsin total at 14 for this Olympics, if I counted correctly. I didn't check assists.

--------------

32 total assists, 31 playing in the gold medal game for UW players.

-------------

That's for all national teams. When you mentioned Watts, I thought you were talking about all teams.

Just for USA, I've got Wisconsin at 9. They do have the points lead (30)

Knight (3), Edward (2), Harvey (2), Curl (1), Simms (1)....was just going off of an article for Wisconsin's team site, chance I missed a transfer that wasn't included but don't think I did

Yeah, that's right. As I said, you had mentioned Watts, so that implied you were talking about both teams. Then "the question" changed.

is there anyone else besides me watching this incredible gold medal win for USA wondering

with 5 former BC players in that game today ....HOW THE HELL DID BC GET SO BAD AT WOMENS ICE HOCKEY SO QUICKLY ?

Be honest. Please

I love how everyone on this board is unhinged in their own way.

To answer your question: yes. But be kind to yourself, there’s lots and lots of reasons.

Locked into 3rd place in the standings, so nothing really to play for today. Forcing BU to play a 1st round game would be great though!
They'll be in the play-in (unless UNH score 4 unanswered in the net 25 minutes or so)...not that I would ever condone rooting for BU but not the worst thing if they win the play-in. Feel like they've got the best shot of that group to take down UConn or Northeastern in round one.

If BC gets by Vermont next Saturday, only takes one upset for BC to host the semifinals.
