2026 Winter Olympics

Simms didn't even get a shift though she's a more dynamic player than Zumwickle, Pannek, Scammura and even Coyne at this point. She got KK'ed 2022'ed LOL. She'd have been great on the 3 on 3, she's got experience with that from UW and she is plenty fast enough. She didn't look thrilled getting the medal.

Sending Edwards out there 3 on 3 was coaching malfeasance. It works in college, but against Canada, no way. 100% playing with fire. There was plenty of evidence in the game alone that should have made it obvious that it was a bad idea.

The game was a great game. I thought USA's chicken was fried. Canada scored first (all Edwards had to do was keep skating, but I've seen that play before), ARD was spot on, they were playing great D zone D, they were creating offense, the table was set for a W. The US did hold their composure under duress. I thought the Curl penalty was curtains for USA. Luckily they didn't get scored on, but they lost 2 minutes of precious time. I don't like the pulling the G with over 2 on the clock, but it worked out.

I'm glad the OT was going to be 20 minutes. If you are going a full 20, then just play 5 on 5. That is the game at it's purest level.

Frankel was the MVP of that game, but KK was the MVP of the tourney. She's quite possibly the best player on the planet.

Great recap Timothy. Wonder what the Simms strategy was. She’s never shone on the senior team (yet) but she’s got the clutch gene. I wondered if they brought her for shootouts in case something went crazy in the quarters or semis? It turns out there is not shootouts for gold medal games anymore.

Anyway the TOI is interesting. I didn’t think they’d play Edwards on the pk and they did.

Now we see what happens when they all come home. The Olympic letdown is supposedly a real thing. We’ll see whose ready to go.

College went to the 3X3 in OT to better avoid ties and have a winner. The team that can adapt quicker has the advantage. It works most of the time, I would rather have this than end up in a shootout the way it used to be. The Olympics followed suit.

The 2018 Olympic gold medal game had a full 20 minute 4-on-4 overtime, followed by a shoot-out. I remember noting the irony that that 20 minute OT was the only period in the game when nobody scored. Normal 5-on-5 generated at least one goal each period, but the 'open ice' 4-on-4 didn't.

I trust the coaching staff over the bias of a sinner poster every day of the week. A wise choice to have veteran PWHL players getting ice time over the sinner player.

The point being is you and I are not the coach. And ultimately it matters what they think and not you or I.

The players you mentioned have much more physicality playing in the PWHL than the sinner player you mentioned.

Physicality is great, but Team USA came within a couple minutes of being shut out.

Benching one of the kids that can provide a scoring touch nearly bit them in the behind.

Anyway, it worked out for them, barely.

With Curl, Murphy, and Dunne (the latter of whom did not see the ice in OT), that's already three forwards who can play reckless, a category in which I would include Simms. Most coaches have a limited patience for those types of players, and try to keep those numbers relatively low. Just up to Simms to make sure she's too good not to play next time around.

Simms was on the team for the dynamic element despite the lack of an obvious spot for her in the lineup. The Decker injury in 2022 and the rosters being limited to 23 means it was smart to bring her. But she had to know going in there was probably going to need to be an injury for her to get real minutes.

I don't know how you can argue against the breadth of Wroblewski's coaching decisions given 33-2, sweep in the Rivalry Series, two Worlds golds this cycle, Olympic gold, players seem to love him. But there's probably one person on the team hoping he's not the coach next time.

All good points. Wroblewski pushed all the right buttons.

And if we're honest, had they lost, "should have played Simms more" wouldn't even be on the radar of things that keep him up at night.

I don’t know. Tough one. There is something to be said for being at the Olympics too.

She can’t win in your guys eyes so it’s pointless arguing.
As best I have been able to see, Muzerall is not in Bemidji for her team's game tonight.

------------

Adding, one of her players who actually played in the Olympics, Sann Vanhanen, IS in Bemidji, and is playing.

whoever these non olympic buckeyes are, they seem to have it together. 7-1 final. In the series in the fall they won by 6 in game one then game 2 was a one goal game.

We’ll see how tomorrow goes.

Hilary Knigjt named the flag bearer today.

Yes of course. What do you mean by that? In the fall they thought game 2 was going to be easy?
I mean if their opponent this weekend had been Wisconsin, or Minnesota, would she have gone to Milan? Would she have been back in time for tonight's game?

This is utterly disrespectful to Bemidji.

Respect your opponent.
