2026 Winter Olympics: Thread Title Under Construction

Is it a choke for Canada to lose to the Czechs at this point?
Canada is 1 and Czechia is 3, so it's a question of the gap. The US is so far ahead in womens I think any loss is a choke now, like the Russians back in the day. But I just don't know how tightly the men are grouped.

Canadian TV dramas are exactly the same as American, except fewer guns and the women are prettier.

Czechia is the team just outside the Top Tier (US/Can/Rus/Swe/Fin) and they are closing the gap. The distance between CZ and the US isn't much.

Czecia

Been like that for the last few cycles.. I think the IIHF just sort of caved on this to cater to the North American crowd.
2010.

To be honest, it was pretty stupid. Even the European based sports with a clock like Handball and Futsal had gone to countdown clocks by the 2000s. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was some bullshit the Russians insisted upon.

I was just referring to Canada having a real tough run against Czechia for years now.

As for the clock, I kind of miss the old way. Elegant way to be rid of the math needed when looking at scoring.

I'm glad. It's a better system. Like forks are better than chop sticks. I know, culture, but get over it, using them now is just a dumb affectation by middle class whites who won't do anything substantive for people but love to march and chant. Counting up was dumb.

Who? I haven't been able to follow things the last few days.
Amber Glenn. She missed a required move during the short program, and pretty much has no chance to medal. NBC had a short feature on her prior to her skate, and she was supposed to be the best chance to win the gold among the American women. I feel really bad for her, since she stood up to the orange menace and his worshipers.

Fuck, the Vancouver games really did fuck all IIHF traditions just for the NHL/North America market, didn't it?

2010 was also the first year of Olympics where NHL ice size was used as well.

IIRC, scoring still counts up, so math is still involved. It just makes it so the scorekeeper has to do it, instead of the audience.

Yes scoring counts up. I internalized that as an instant calculation by my fourth game. It's a fundamental skill anybody who cares about such things ought to learn, like seamanship.
