Reminder- I really never come to the political boards, but seeing the new "save act" makes me really question the right and if they are capable of thinking.

And I'm assuming this is the right place to talk about it- if there's another thread, please tell me.

But if I read the core of that idea right, the "save act" asks that voters provide proof of US citizenship to vote. Which is just a poll tax in the end, but that's not really what I'm interested in.

The proof required is either a passport or a certified birth certificate. But more democrats and liberals have passports than republicans and conservatives. And getting a current valid birth certificate costs money (and needs access to be able to request one). Both of which red states suffer in terms of disposable income and access- they have taken it away to try to hurt the minorities in their state- but it hurts them just as much.

So this whole "save act" is going to hurt republican voters more than democrat ones. Which actually matters in states like Michigan- since margins are pretty thin either way.

Did anyone actually think about this idea?

Aww, you think this law will be applied equally against all states and not just arbitrarily against some states.

Not to mention that the act may harass women who have changed their names. Married women go more strong R, and women who keep their maiden name on marriage must be strongly D.

Even if it does, the people who will be hurt the most are the ones who don't already travel. So places like California will have a bigger gap. Or the difference between MSP and the rest of Minnesota in who travels. Or Michigan. I don't really think conservatives go to Canada unless they already have to. Or Texas.

I don't buy it. This won't be equally applied because challenges and disputes won't be easily adjudicated on Election Day. Cleetus will be waived through the ID check by his friend Bubba who works the precinct, while Davon and Tenisha will get stopped. Even if they vote a provisional ballot, do you think they're going to count those?

It's designed to hurt women voters, and especially black women, which go disproportionately blue.

Doesn't matter if more GOP women are disenfranchised than dem women as a percentage, the goal is to remove as many women as possible.

Maine voted on this last year, No vote, almost 2 to 1 against. So what does Susie say, she is all in favor. WTF, of course she explains by saying its just an ID, no big deal, never mentions Passport or any of the other hoops one must jump thru. The Dems need to be all over that, like right now

The thing is that anything the GQP says is a lie.

That's the trick to understanding them. That's the secret decoder ring. They lie. Relentlessly. Shamelessly.

This is why it is pointless to play GOP Members' or enablers' clips or quote them, and the news should simply ignore them and just stick to facts.

Journalism is for people who are sincerely trying to get to the truth. American conservatives stopped doing that during Richard Nixon. They are fabulists. Quoting a Republican is deliberate misinformation.

Yes but the news doesn't care, they let them say anything and never question it either in person or later on
