NHL 2026: The Olympics Will Be Mammoth!

I expect nothing but the worst decisions from this league, so I'm not surprised the wild completely passed at all mentioning Alex Pretti during their two home games this week. Frost and Wolves did, of course.

Also, I love some karma. Red Wings fans (some of course, not a ton) were cheering when Jonas Brodin went down and was removed from Sweden's olympic roster, because they wanted Edvinsson to replace him. Well, turns out, now he's out through the olympics. teehee

Edvinsson will be a great player if he stays healthy, but he isn't ready for Olympic competition. Plus I would prefer all Wings sit out the Olympics and rest for three weeks.

Do you think that was incompetence or enemy action? Is the Wild owner a fasc?

Man, did the NHL get lucky with weather and their outdoor games in Florida. It was cool in Miami, and it's almost record cold in Tampa right now- a brisky 43 before puck drop. Much cooler than a NHL arena.

As long as there isn't sun, doesn't the ice stay in decent shape? I don't recall many complaints when they played at Dodger Stadium. If anything it's making sure it isn't too cold outside. Ice was in terrible condition at PSU this week. Club team abandoned their game and finished at Pegula, and the men's and women's games took 3.5 hours for ice repair stoppages.

Too cold is just as bad as too warm. BTDT. I spend may years paying youth hockey in a naturally cooled rink- and ice contracts a LOT the colder it gets. And it's also very graduated in temp- so the top is so cold that the last layers put down will contract really fast- making the surface chip up really bad. And in my older times, I've learned that not controlling the freezing of the ice well makes it a mess, too- which I suspect happened at Happy Valley- being so cold that the air drove the freezing more than the cooling system.

But seeing the planning for these games, I think they were planning on daytime highs in the 80s' in Miami for that game (and possibly 80 and humid for the game), and at least the high 70s for this one- which does take a lot of work to keep the sun at bay. 43 with artificial cooling makes the surface pretty darned nice.
