Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather IV: Niño or Niña, My Joints Stopped Trying

Huh. Not seen that before. Was that simply a snap, or did I miss something?
Trees can explode when temps become cold enough to rapidly freeze the sap. The further north you go, the more likely you are to see it. While I wouldn’t say it’s common, but it’s been witnessed before. It can sound like a weapon being fired, depending upon the type of tree and size. If you perform a search, you can see a number of blown out trunks. Trees within or near intense forest fires have been known to have he same reaction.

Thank you. I think somewhere back in the deep recesses of my memory I knew that once.

It works the other direction, too. I found out one memorable night why you don't throw a dry pine branch into a fire.

Minnesota is great. Exploding trees in the winter, exploding roads in the summer. Continental climates for the win.

looks like it broke from the weight of the snow?

Man, the last time I played in the US Pond Hockey Championships, the first game I played has an air temp of -15F. By the time we finished our third and final game, it had warmed up to -5F. With the breaks between games, we had just enough time to let the cold seep into us. I think it’s the first time I ever came close to getting hypothermia. I was so cold, my body was wet from sweat, my brain was slow, and my thoughts felt sluggish along with my reactions by game 3, and my jaw kept chattering. A short while later, it was the first time I was happy to find myself in a Cheesecake Factory just for the warmth.

We got that minus temps weather coming to Maine tonight. Northern Maine will be chilly in the minus 20s Here on the coast only minus single digits. Bringing in wood later today

Big snowstorm about to Heated Rivalry the eastern seaboard.

My VA property management service is sending me notices like it's the End Times.

1+ inch of ice forecasted for my area…maybe the power line they’ll have to inevitably have to replace in my front yard won’t be put in crooked like the one is now that some boys from Georgia put in my yard five years ago after the tornado.

…and that said…1 inch of ice >>>> ICE… 1 inch ICE is should be their motto.

Snow starting Sunday into Monday for a foot/foot and a half total. Single digit temps Sat and Sun mornings. This isn't the plains of Alberta or the ice box that is Minnesoda, but for here it's fucking cold.
